Managing Director of the 🇵🇰 Pakistan Land Port Authority (PLPA), Lt Gen Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat (R), visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Islamabad and met with FPCCI President Atif Ikram Shaikh and other chamber members to discuss matters pertaining to trade facilitation and border management.
During the meeting, the role of PLPA in ensuring smooth trade operations, timely movement and processing of consignments, and addressing the concerns and problems faced by the trader community was comprehensively discussed.
The MD highlighted that PLPA serves as a vital voice of traders and is committed to enhancing coordination and efficiency at border terminals to promote international trade activities.
It was further shared that in Phase-l, PLPA currently will oversee four Border Terminals, with a focus on modernizing operations and facilitating regional and international trade connectivity.
PLPA is developing its own force with IT integration with all relevant agencies and in times to come will benefit coming in trades and transit. PLPA will work closely with all chambers to help understand and assist for future endeavours.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director, Ms. Xiaoqin (Emma) Fan, visited the PLPA headquarters today. The MD PLPA briefed the Country Director on the role, functions, and endeavors of PLPA. Both took stock of the ITTMS (Torkham & Chaman) state-of-the-art projects undertaken with ADB assistance.
The MD PLPA expressed his concerns regarding the Afghan security situation, policies, and their impact on Afghan trade, which are contributing to poverty in Afghanistan. Both also discussed trade with Iran, CAREC, and future measures for cooperation as per the ADB Country Partnership Strategy (CPS).
Ms. Emma appreciated the Government of Pakistan’s decision to establish PLPA, stating that it was the need of the hour and would assist in building the national exchequer and ensuring better governance at the borders.
The meeting concluded with a note of thanks to ADB and FBR for their efforts in developing modern land ports.
Controller PLPA Taftan had a meeting with the local traders’ community and clearing agents at Taftan in the presence of Customs and NLC. As per the decisions taken to facilitate adjustment, safety, early clearance, and shifting of some vehicles to the nearby Customs yard, the initiative was much appreciated by the traders and clearing agents, who showed satisfaction with the new authority to help facilitate trade.
