Wait. Let me get this straight.

A Brooklyn non-for-profit organization is under federal investigation for alleged bribery and embezzlement of millions of dollars, its former leadership has been indicted, and New York City’s response is:

“Here’s another $200 million.”

What the hell is wrong with these people?

And let’s be clear: these aren’t just city dollars. Many of these programs ultimately receive funding from New York State and federal taxpayers as well. It’s all taxpayer money.

Taxpayers are expected to believe that after allegations of corruption, the answer is not caution, not a pause, not a full audit, but even more public money.

This is exactly why New Yorkers have lost trust in government. The same officials who claim to be watchdogs keep writing checks while looking the other way.

When I am Comptroller, I will investigate every dollar of these programs. And if there is even an ounce of negligence, misconduct, failure of oversight, or taxpayer funds put at risk by public officials or administrators, I will recommend prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.

New Yorkers are tired of the fraud. Tired of the waste. Tired of the abuse.

A real watchdog is coming.
