@JackieAkampwera More than prayers/he sees and listens to the heart!
We have all been there and many still on the same but varying path - the Almighty One will meet you where you need most; words/prayers or not, still is God!
Will never leave you nor forsake you..!
The Light will shine again!
Mwenda, sit down. You do not get to lecture a kingdom about “who a king can sleep with” while dragging unnamed women through the mud as prostitutes and housemaids.
A woman who bears a king’s child is a mother. Full stop. Not a street statistic for you to use as a punchline while you play kingmaker from Kampala.
You said “this is not to suggest that Oyo did any of this” then why say it at all? You said it because you wanted the insult to land. You wanted people to picture the late king with a “prostitute” so you could disqualify a child you have never even seen. That is cheap. That is classist. That is misogynistic. And it is cowardly.
If succession has rules, state the rules. If there is a will, produce the will. If the mother must be known, demand her name and clan like an adult. Do not hide behind “prostitute on the street” to do the dirty work of a succession fight.
You have spent years talking about culture. Culture does not require you to spit on women to make a point. 😡
Leave the dead king. Leave the child’s mother. Argue the custom without turning women into slurs. 📌
@mkainerugaba Today, Our Excellency is hurting!
31 years ago he took the role of a 'Mukuza', of not just anyone but a King. He he has cared, guided and protected - today he received the one entrusted to him home, in so much pain!
We salute him for this too 🫡
We couldn’t agree more with @DeputySecState. We look forward to working with @adoniaayebare to bring security and prosperity to both our countries and the region.
I am very intrigued by the entry of Ambassador Olara Otunnu @OOtunnu_ into the race for @UN Secretary-General. While the conventional wisdom is that it is the turn of Latin America, Otunnu, were he to somehow scale the informal hurdle of rotation politics , would make an excellent Secretary-General. As vastly experienced as he is competent, Otunnu became Uganda’s Ambassador to the UN in 1980 at age 29! He was sharp, young, and much respected despite his youth. He introduced the informal straw polling used ever since as a method of measuring support for candidates among the members of the Security Council, which really determines who gets the job and then makes a “recommendation” to the UN General Assembly. Otunnu later became Uganda’s Foreign Minister. At @Makerere , Otunnu was a student union leader who opposed the brutal Ugandan dictator Idi Amin’s rule. He was expelled from the university and narrowly escaped arrest by slipping into a neighboring country. From there on, he was to be educated @UniofOxford and later, @Harvard on a Fulbright Scholarship.
In 1996 he was a strong competitor of Kofi Annan and others for the role, but, his native Uganda and its President @KagutaMuseveni opposed his candidacy. Today, now 75, he is Museveni’s candidate. How times change. Otunnu is world class, and I wish him the best.
During my UN career, Otunnu had invited me to return to UN Headquarters (where I had earlier been a Political Affairs Officer in the UN’s Department of Peacekeeping Operations headed at the time by Kofi Annan as Under-Secretary-General) and join his team, where he was the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children in Armed Conflict and Under-Secretary-General , as his Special Assistant and Senior Adviser around 2001 when I was serving as Legal Adviser and Spokesman of the International Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania, but that invitation ultimately did not work out for reasons I will be sharing in my forthcoming memoir, out soon! As it turned out, I was to move on to @WHO in Geneva on a promotion into the senior ranks of the UN system as Head of Global Partnerships at The Global Fund @GlobalFund
Fun fact: Otunnu and I share the distinction of having been unsuccessful presidential candidates in African countries where politics is, well, you know….😀
@SodoKaguta Interesting ...🤔
Especially when pointed out by another family member - it really is a double-standard!😉🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️
I come and leave in Peace ✌️ 🕊
