The Ugandan delegation held engagements with the Solicitor General Hon. Shadrack Mose and the Power of Mercy Advisory Committee. The visiting team also attended a sensitization forum at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.

The Power of Mercy Advisory Committee has been hosting the Advisory Committee on Clemency from the Republic of Uganda, led by Ms. Maris Wanyera representing their Attorney General. The Committee is on a two-day official visit, to study the Kenyan pardon processing model.

Earlier today, the Solicitor General Hon.@shadrack_mose hosted a delegation from the Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy of the Republic of Uganda, led by Madam Maris Wanyera, who represented the Ugandan Attorney General.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both teams to engage and exchange experiences on the processing and handling of pardon applications, given the similar roles played by Uganda’s Advisory Committee and Kenya’s Power of Mercy Advisory Committee.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration, sharing best practices, and enhancing transparency and efficiency in the administration of mercy and clemency processes within the justice systems of the two countries. 🇰🇪🤝🇺🇬

Three Community Leaders where necessary and the Power of Mercy Petitions Officer in charge of the county shall be the secretary to the committee.

The Power of Mercy Advisory Committee lead by the Chair the Hon. Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, on 5th December, launched the County Based Multi Agency Committees at Nakuru Main Prison.

The Committee chaired by the County Commissioner will be composed of the County Security Committee, Prisons Commander, Director Probation, County Government representative, Director of health Services, representatives from the Children's Department NGOs, Inter religious council,

Further, the Head of State extended General amnesty to all petty offenders sentenced to six months and below; and offenders serving sentences longer than six months, whose remaining terms are now six months or less.

H.E. the President William Ruto, on Monday 28th April, 2025 exercised the prerogative of the power of mercy under Article 133 of the Constitution.
The Head of State granted mercy to 56 Kenyan citizens and one foreign national.

This morning, the Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei, officially launched the 2024-2028 POMAC Strategic Plan, accompanied by Solicitor General Shadrack Mose.
