We establish and maintain standards for peace officer training and certification that are relevant, realistic and responsive to our ever-changing world.
Every act of gun violence leaves a lasting impact on victims, families, friends, and entire communities.
During National Gun Violence Awareness Month, we stand with those affected by violence, honor the lives that have been lost, and recognize the strength of survivors. We also reaffirm our commitment to seeking justice, supporting victims, and working alongside our community partners to promote safety and prevention.
FACT: Orange is the color of the gun violence prevention movement, chosen in honor of Hadiya Pendleton, a Chicago teenager whose life was tragically cut short by gun violence. The color also reflects the blaze orange worn for safety, symbolizing the value of life and the importance of protecting our communities.

🍋💙 SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY, ONE CUP AT A TIME! 💙🍋
Today, Chief Kerr and members of the Sterling Police Department Command Staff had the opportunity to stop by the lemonade stand hosted by the amazing individuals at Steiner Sils!
Steiner Sils provides services and support for individuals with developmental disabilities throughout our community, and we were happy to show our support for their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. Even better, we recognized several familiar faces from the Sterling Comets program that many of us have had the privilege of cheering on and supporting over the years.
Thank you to everyone at Steiner Sils for the warm smiles, great conversation, and of course, the delicious lemonade! 🍋😁
Building connections and supporting one another is what community is all about.

Back from DC!
It was a busy trip for our officers but one they'll never forget.
"It was an emotional week," according to Sheridan Police Officer Bruce Williams.
National Police Week in Washington honors law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Police agencies from around the nation attend to participate in ceremonies and activities.
This year, the Sheridan Police Department, in partnership with Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Sheridan Lodge #042, sent two officers.
Lieutenant Bryce Jackson and Officer Bruce Williams earned the honors of representing our department this year.
"It's very humbling. It solidifies why we do what we do," said Williams.
Our officers were proud to represent Sheridan during such an important week in our nation's history.
National Police week, May 11-16, is both a time of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day.
When danger is present, we run toward it. Not away from it.
Early this morning, we were called to a two-alarm fire at 797 Dillon Way. For over half an hour, we went door-to-door ensuring every resident was accounted for -- knocking down those doors if we had to. Flames spread quickly and we continued to evacuate residents while our partners at @AuroraFireDpt fought the fire.
Everyone’s efforts – from the officers to the firefighters – ensured there was no loss of life or serious injuries.
Thank you all for your exceptional bravery and commitment to the Aurora community not just today, but every day.

Today we remember and honor the service men and women who, as Abraham Lincoln stated, gave their last full measure of devotion to our Nation. May we be worthy of their sacrifices and reaffirm our resolve to uphold the values and freedoms they so valiantly fought for.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re recognizing the importance of mental health for everyone, including those inside our jail facilities.
Our mental health professionals work every day to provide support, crisis intervention, counseling, and resources to individuals facing difficult challenges. Their work promotes safety, rehabilitation, and hope.
Mental health challenges can affect anyone. Asking for help is not a weakness, it’s a sign of strength. If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available.
• In an emergency, or if someone is in immediate danger, call 911. Our deputies work alongside Co-Responders to help connect individuals with mental health support. • Call or text 988, or visit https://t.co/1EQubbwLDR for free, confidential support available 24/7.
Together, we can help break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage compassion, conversation, and care.

Today, we pause to reflect on the lives and service of the peace officers we’ve lost. 🕊️ To those still serving: please care for your well-being so you can continue caring for others. 🫂 Know that POST is here for you, with resources available anytime: https://t.co/biFIh13qd9.
It’s #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, a time to raise awareness and remind our community that help is available.
At #WPD, our Co-Responder Unit (CRU) pairs licensed mental health professionals with police officers to respond to behavioral health and substance abuse-related calls for service. They also work alongside firefighters, animal management officers, and homeless navigators to connect people in crisis with the support and resources.
Their impact is significant. From January through March alone, the CRU responded to 345 in-person calls for service, already helping hundreds of people so far this year.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a life-threatening crisis, call 911 and request a Co-Responder. If you would like to speak with a Co-Responder but are not in immediate crisis, please call 303-706-3100.
For more information about the unit, visit our website https://t.co/p46m3MxBb6.
WPD officers rescue dog from burning home
Earlier this month, #WPD officers were first on scene at a house fire. The homeowner escaped safely with one of his two dogs, but the second remained trapped inside. After quickly assessing the situation, our officers rushed into the burning home, rescued the frightened dog, and reunited her with her owner.
Thanks to @WestyFire, the fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported.
This is just one example of the risks law enforcement officers take to protect others. On people’s worst days, we show up. During #NationalPoliceWeek, we honor the men and women who serve our community every day and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Colorado’s own Bockman & Lee have engraved the names of fallen officers on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in D.C., since 1991. This year, they will add 363 more.🕯️As we observe Police Week 2026, let us honor and remember those who gave everything: https://t.co/mEzHGQYdYh.
