PUBLIC NOTICE TO THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY IN THE UNITED STATES AND RELEVANT FEDERAL AUTHORITIES

Dear Members of the Christian Community,

I wish to draw your attention to disturbing reports of Ethiopian Orthodox Christians being forced to renounce their faith in #Arsi , Ethiopia, amid continuing violence against one of the world's oldest Christian communities. Two videos reportedly documenting religious coercion accompany this notice.

I also call attention to Mr. #Habtamu_Challa_Gurmu (@Habtishgreat), an Ethiopian immigrant reportedly residing in Alabama, who publicly supports the Ethiopian government and has repeatedly engaged in commentary concerning Ethiopian Orthodox Christians and the Amhara community that I regard as harassment and intimidation.

Mr. Challa has publicly claimed to possess a United States government security clearance. I respectfully request that the relevant federal authorities verify this claim and examine any credible evidence of an undisclosed relationship with the Ethiopian government, including whether applicable foreign agent registration requirements arise.

A photograph reportedly showing Mr. Challa at a federal government office in Addis Ababa is also being shared. The photograph alone does not establish an official relationship or foreign agency. Nevertheless, his public statements and any independently substantiated connections deserve appropriate scrutiny.

Given the grave allegations of religious coercion in Arsi, I further urge authorities to examine any credible evidence of connections to individuals or organizations involved in violent Islamic extremism. No such connection involving Mr. Challa has presently been established by the materials described here.

The persecution of Ethiopian Orthodox Christians must never be normalized. Religious freedom, human dignity, and the protection of innocent civilians must remain universal principles.

I respectfully request that American Christian organizations, religious freedom advocates, and relevant authorities examine the accompanying materials and support an independent, evidence based investigation.
