Sh. B. Surendran Ji, organising Secretary of BMS participated in a event organised by Global Coalition for Social Justice on the sidelines of 114th session of International Labour Conference in Geneva to discuss the impact of India's new labour codes on workers. The session titled from national reforms to global reforms - sharing experiences, shaping solutions for social justice posed two very important questions relating to the labour codes and how they can garner broader support and how these codes can ensure social protection for unorganised sector worker. Sh.Surendran highlighted the provisions enabling base expansion of ESI and EPF can expand under the new codes, provision of VDA linked minimum wages, responsibility of both contractor & principal employer towrads workers, right to medical check up etc. in his answers while cautioning that implementation is the key otherwise these remain as just good intentions. During the panel the DG, ILO; labour minister of Rawanda and representative of India's employers' group were also present
