NEWS: @CIJ_ICJ affirms @ILO#right2strike in BIG WIN for workers+#unions.โ๐ด๐ฉ
PSI General Secretary @DanielBertossa said: โThe ability to withhold our labour, if and when necessary, has always been part of workers' wider right to organize. Today, the worldโs highest court has affirmed our right to strike."
The decision provides international support for unions everywhere to #fightback when rights are attacked nationally.
โPSI will support our members to use the protections of the ILO when freedom of association and our rights come under attack. Todayโs ruling shows that workers will stand up and be heard. We have international law on our side.โ

In Pakistan, thousands of electricity workers held rallies in 13 cities against the government's plan to privatise power distribution companies (DISCOs). Abdul Latif Nizamani, President of All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union said the government's reliance on IMF directives is putting workers' jobs and energy security at risk, and that the protest movement will widen if demands are not met.
In Australia, PSI affiliate ETU addressed the National Press Club in Canberra, making the case for "Sovereign Power" โ a publicly-owned renewable energy entity to power Australian industry. ETU National Secretary, Michael Wright, said a future made in Australia must be powered by Australia.
Unions in both the countries have one shared message: energy is too important to leave to the market.

WORKERS SUCCESSFULLY DEFEND GENDER EQUALITY AT THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR CONFERENCE!
Maddy Northam, PSIโs LGBTIQA+ Coordinating Committee co-chair, CPSU ACT Regional Secretary and ACTU representative, was a key figure in the tripartite drafting committee that successfully preserved gender equality as a human right and commitments to intersectionality at the International Labour Organization this week in Geneva.
The ILOโs first discussion on gender in the workplace in years risked having gender equality severely undermined by the Trump administration and its right-wing ally, Argentinian President Javier Milei.
Thankfully, Maddy and her PSI colleague Florence Taruvinga, head of the Energy Sector Workersโ Union of Zimbabwe (ESWUZ), were able to work alongside progressive governments and other committed worker delegates at the ILO to defend equality and human rights, standing up for the worldโs public sector workers โ 70% of whom are women.

Delegations from five Nepali trade unions met PSI General Secretary @DanielBertossa in Geneva this week.
They were there to raise a pressing concern: the Nepal government has deregistered 12 public sector unions in the civil services, health sector and public sector.
The meeting is part of the unions' efforts to build international solidarity against the deregistration.
PSI, along with its affiliates, is responding through a legal challenge at the national level. PSI has also filed a case with the @ilo and is engaged in international solidarity actions.
The delegations represented Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC), Nepal Civil Services Employees Union (NSCEU), All Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF), South Asian Regional Trade Union Council (SARTUC) and General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union (GEFONT).

Represented KMPDU at the Gender Equality and Leadership Workshop hosted by Public Services International @PSIglobalunion
The workshop focused on advancing womenโs leadership within trade unions. We engaged in discussions on practical strategies to strengthen womenโs leadership, participation and representation across union structures.
During the workshop, we identified several key action areas for our union:
โขDevelopment of a KMPDU Gender Policy.
โขEstablishment of a KMPDU Gender Desk.
โขInclusion of gender balance and affirmative action provisions in the ongoing KMPDU constitutional reforms.
โขIncorporation of key provisions in the CBA : Occupational Safety and Health, anti-harassment measures and gender equality protections among others.
We look forward to advancing these initiatives and strengthening womenโs power, influence and leadership within our union structures.

Electricity workers across Sindh province took to the streets against government's plans to privatise power distribution companies.
Workers marched simultaneously in Hyderabad, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Badin under the banner of All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union.
Their demands:
๐นWithdrawal of privatisation plans
๐นRegularisation of contract employees
๐นClearance of long-pending promotions
๐นEnd to outsourcing of technical posts
Union leaders warned that privatisation would mean job losses, higher electricity bills and the handover of public assets to private interests. They also announced a two-day tool-down strike.
WAPDA workers have long maintained that public sector companies deliver electricity more efficiently and at lower cost than private operators. Evidence shows that last 30 years of privatisation in Pakistan's power sector has delivered windfall profits for private companies and crushing tariffs for ordinary citizens.
Selling off distribution companies will only deepen the crisis.

PSI's Japan and Korea union councils have taken direct action โ writing to corporations and pension funds to demand divestment from companies financially supporting Myanmar's military regime.
Since seizing power in February 2021, Myanmar's military regime has systematically dismantled labour rights, arrested union members and crushed freedom of association. The scale of the crisis was confirmed in June 2025, when the @ilo unanimously invoked Article 33 of its Constitution against the regime โ imposing its highest level of sanctions for the third time in its history.
PSI Japan Council wrote to KDDI Labour Union, calling on it to push for a concrete withdrawal roadmap from Myanmar's state telecommunications operator. PSI Korea Council wrote to the National Pension Service, demanding divestment from POSCO โ one of the companies identified as financially supporting the junta.
Workers' pensions should build secure futures โ not bankroll repression.
