The BBC has highlighted similar cases of customers facing large locksmith bills. If you need a locksmith, check who you are actually calling. Look for an established local business, genuine reviews and clear contact details before letting anyone work on your locks.

It seems to be getting worse. A recent customer made sure they called a genuinely local locksmith after previously being charged around £500. Their lock had been drilled and replaced when, in my opinion, the work should not have been necessary.

This was the door of a small business owner in Ipswich who had lost their only key and called me for help. I gained entry without causing any damage and supplied a new key so they could get back to trading, all completed within 30 minutes of the call. #ipswich #locksmith

Non destructive entry today. Customer lost key while shopping. Door opened cleanly, spare key was inside.

Be careful with Google sponsored locksmith ads. Some end up costing hundreds after pressure tactics. Always choose local and read the Google reviews, check social media etc.

Called to IP2 lockout. Customer nearly fell for a £40 ad with no local engineer. If it sounds too cheap, it usually is.

Recently restored an old Chubb 110 detainer lock, gave it a full clean and service, plus a new lever set and two genuine keys. After many years in use, it’s ready for many more. They really don’t make them like this anymore! #Satisfying

Brass multi point handles replaced, as this one somehow managed to fall off!

Another elderly victim to this kind of thing unfortunately, it seems to be rife scamming customers at the moment. Unless this trade is regulated in some sort of way, this isn’t going to stop. At close to nearly £1500 this is unlawful and in my eyes criminal.

A prime example of what a euro cylinder should not look like when fitted. Obviously I did not leave it like this for the customer.

A customer unfortunately found themselves locked out earlier. These aren’t particularly the hardest makes of lock to pick. But whoever fitted the lock badly before, made this job a bit harder.
