We chop and change Prime Ministers every two years because no one’s willing to accept the reality of the position the country finds itself in, and it becomes easy cope to keep blaming a central figure.
This is actually v.concerning. On a national level, unless nations develop AI sovereignty, greater societal/economic reliance & embedding of AI (which is the natural trajectory) is just going to lead to much more geopolitical vulnerability.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

On an individual level, imagine building a business whose viability depends on AI, and overnight it’s gone. A stark reminder that we don’t own these tools & building on a foundation that can be so easily pulled out is not a sustainable strategy.
Mitt Romney to Harvard Business School graduates: "There's more to a country than its economy. To be a great nation, it must also be a good nation. The world needs good men. It needs good women. Good leaders. Good parents raising good children. There is no national success that could compensate for failure to be a good and noble people."
@_Unknown_D_ Whilst I agree with the sentiment, the fact that she’s able to invest 40% of her salary each month & pay ‘huge sums’ towards her sister’s private uni fees (along with monthly living expenses) isn’t helping her case lol
What is the point of a GE & the stability of a 5-year term if it’s this easy to oust a PM and create chaos.
We already have a friction between high-yield longer-term decisions the UK needs vs the short-term incentives to win elections. This is going to make that problem worse.
I’m a Starmer bitter-ender. For the simple small-D democratic reason that he won a national mandate and his term isn’t up.
I don’t understand this notion that bad local election results mean the prime minister should resign.
If Starmer is forced out, he’ll be the fifth PM in a row to last less than a full term. There are some structural issues making the job near impossible. Changing the name above the door won’t fix it.
What is this betrayal? Not Kier’s biggest fan but small unpopularity and/or missteps, and people/party are calling for leadership change.
When has a sitting prime minister NOT been unpopular? So will we just not see a full term PM anymore?
Starmer’s speech all but pledges to rejoin the EU.
Obviously, whatever a closer alignment with the EU looks like going forward, it won’t be able to resemble what we had before (the nature of EU membership), but I ain’t mad at the pledge. At all.
@funkomi The horror stories I’ve heard with shared ownership 🤦🏿♂️. That and Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac’s contribution to the US mortgage crisis in 08, has made me cautious of government-backed schemes like this one. If I can’t afford/access without help, there’s usually a good reason.
People have protested in London, Manchester, Leeds and Nottingham calling for the government to improve paternity leave.
The employment rights minister says the government is carrying out a full review of parental pay and leave.

@AlmyPrince Tbf I wanted to be an academic. But besides for the v.few, a career in academia is also a path to joblessness and/or unstable & v.low paying gigs - especially with my expected area of focus.
Great for tenants rights. Though extent of these changes are likely to cause sell-offs, driving down rental supply & causing rent hikes (though good for buyers).
Wonder if some of these changes are driven by a view that home ownership will become increasingly elusive for most.
🚨 5 key changes for tenants from 1st May 2026 🏠
The new Renters' Rights Act means:
1. Landlords can no longer evict tenants through no-fault evictions - they need a valid reason.
No more bidding wars - landlords can’t ask for more than the advertised rent price.
Landlords can only ask for a maximum of one month’s rent upfront.
Landlords can’t just say no to pets - they must consider requests reasonably.
No more fixed-term tenancy contracts. Rolling contracts will give more flexibility.
