Earlier today, a black bear was spotted in the area of Poplar Sideroad and High Street.
#CollingwoodOPP would like to remind residents to use caution and keep a safe distance if you encounter the bear.
Please remember:
• Do not approach the bear
• Be mindful when letting pets outside and keep them supervised
• Do not leave garbage, pet food, or any food sources outside that could attract the bear
• Use noise (yell, clap, bang pots) to scare the bear away if it approaches
• Stay alert and report any further sightings
Black bears are generally not aggressive but can pose a risk if approached or if they become used to human food sources.
If the bear poses an immediate threat to public safety, call 9-1-1.
For non-emergency sightings, contact the Bear Wise Hotline at 1-866-514-2327.
