The recent murder of UPMC Children's Hospital pediatrician, Dr. Idris Evans, has exposed a simple truth about the Allegheny County bail system - there is no one looking out for victims.

Rep. Mihalek’s legislation would require a complete and current criminal history report, including PA, out-of-state and federal records, be obtained and provided to the judge or magisterial district judge before bail is set or modified.

Logan Mihailoff, a junior at Camas High, switched from the boys' cross country team to the girls' team midseason.

The switch sparked outrage among parents and students. Almost half of the girls competing in Tuesday’s race walked off the course in protest of the biological male's participation.

The girls’ decision was supported by their parents, many of whom attended the race with signs calling to keep men out of women's sports.

”You hear about it, but you just never think it's going to be on your kid's small cross-country team.”

Mihailoff has run in boys’ races as recently as last month, finishing 76th out of 301 runners.

But over a month later on October 10, 2026, Mihailoff ran in the women's elite race at the Nike Hole in The Wall XC Invitational in Arlington…placing 2nd.

A state audit found widespread deficiencies in Shapiro’s Department of Aging’s oversight of elder abuse investigations, including weaknesses in monitoring, follow-up, training, transparency, and compliance with state law.
