¿Qué quiere la administración Trump de Cuba?

Ben Rhodes, exasesor de la Casa Blanca y uno de los funcionarios estadounidenses que participó en las negociaciones con Cuba durante la era Obama, revela que el interés de Donald Trump en la isla viene principalmente por su alto potencial de desarrollo en bienes raíces.

En un Podcast con Hasan Minhaj, Rhodes develó que personal cercano a Trump había hecho contacto con los cubanos —incluso antes de ganar su primer mandato— interesado en desarrollar campos de golf en la isla.

Afirma además que EEUU intentará algún tipo de agresión contra Cuba próximamente.

The historic photograph shows the deaf-blind American author and activist Helen Keller greeting the British silent-film comedian Charlie Chaplin by touching his face to feel his features during their meeting at Chaplin Studios, 1919...

Keller met Chaplin while visiting his Hollywood studio during the production of Sunnyside. The Charlie Chaplin Archive preserves several images from the meeting and dates them to 1919.

Because Keller was both deaf and blind, touch was central to how she communicated and gathered information about people. She later recalled examining Chaplin's clothing, shoes and famous mustache so she could form a clearer impression of the man she knew as a movie star.

Chaplin arranged a private screening of A Dog's Life and Shoulder Arms. Anne Sullivan communicated what was happening onscreen by signing into Keller's hand, allowing Keller to follow the action and comedy. Accounts from the period reported that she laughed along with the films.

Keller was already internationally famous by this time as an author, lecturer and advocate. She was in California in connection with Deliverance, the 1919 motion picture based on her life in which she appeared as herself.

Keller taught Chaplin the tactile finger alphabet she used to communicate, reversing their expected roles: during part of their meeting, one of the world's most famous silent-film performers was learning a form of silent communication from her.

Belgium sent agents into Congolese villages to take mixed-race children away from their African mothers and put them in institutions run by nuns.

Then, when independence came in 1960, it left thousands of them behind.

They were called the métis. Children of Congolese women and Belgian men. The colonial state classified them as a problem: too European to leave in the village, too African to be Belgian.

So officials removed them. Mothers who resisted were overruled by the administration. Some children were taken as toddlers. Some mothers never saw them again.

They were raised in religious institutions, given new names, and taught that their mothers had given them up.

At independence, Belgium evacuated. Many of the children were left behind in the chaos. Some ended up stateless — belonging, on paper, to no country on earth.

Belgium apologized in 2019. Then in December 2024, a Brussels appeals court went further than any apology: it ruled that the systematic abduction of these children was a CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY, and ordered the state to pay five women who had been taken as girls.

Five women, now in their seventies and eighties, made a European state admit in law what it did to them as children.
