🐢📰BIG NEWS!📰🐢
After two years of organizing and bargaining, we’re thrilled to announce that the Packet/Gazette Guild’s contract with McClatchy has been RATIFIED! 🧵 below:
Last week, the FW Professional Firefighter Local 440 donated $10,000 to our strike fund.
This donation allows us to continue working to get a FAIR contract from @mcclatchy and we cannot thank these firefighters enough.
As they said, one union’s fight is a fight for all unions
The needle often knows before we do. But this was management’s choice. We’ll see you at 1 p.m. for our picket and rally with @NYGuild, @NewsGuild and CWAUnion!
We went on strike because the Blocks went too far when they forced people off their health care. We’re staying on strike because we have each others’ backs. That includes you.
They need shown what happens when they disrespect us, our work, & Pittsburgh.

Happy Labor Day everyone! While we rest and spend time with loved ones today, we also look back at all we've accomplished in our first contract. Check it out here: https://t.co/ahDaJSQa1q
At the @PacketGuild, the union went public two years ago this week. It was the first modern voluntary recognition by @mcclatchy, and the first newspaper union in South Carolina.
Now, the state has a handful of successful news unions and the guild has a contract!
BREAKING: @OneHeraldGuild and @BHnewsguild members voted unanimously to ratify our first collective bargaining agreement. Member turnout was strong with 93% of members in Miami and 100% in Bradenton casting a vote.
We have a contract! After months of bargaining sessions and a lot of work, The State News Guild membership has approved our first collective bargaining agreements. Here’s some of the highlights:

“We have decided we can’t keep on sacrificing our own personal lives for the company to make money and give us nothing in return,” @OneHeraldGuild co-unit chair @MaryEllenKlas said. https://t.co/pp40xju9vl
Today I’m joining my Miami Herald colleagues in a one-day work stoppage as we demand a fair contract from @McClatchy. We need to protect local journalism.
I support My colleagues’ requests for fair pay, maternity leave and reimbursement for the high costs of equipment & travel.
BREAKING: We’re walking out.
After more than two years of bargaining with @McClatchy, unionized journalists from the @MiamiHerald, @elnuevonerald and @bradentonherald are refusing to work for 24 hours and demanding a fair contract.
A contract I helped negotiate is finally done, and it means money in the pockets of hardworking journalists in the Lowcountry today and for years to come. Couldn't be prouder of @PacketGuild
Two years ago, a group of Packeteers envisioned a future where someone could start at the @islandpacket and be paid well enough to put down roots, establish their career there and continue serving the community.
That is so much more possible because of this news. Cheers! 🥂
Also an enormous thank you to @ReillyGuild, who stuck with us through multiple negotiating teams and is someone I'll be forever grateful we had on our side of the table 🙏
