THREAD: “Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.”
This phrase is repeated like gospel in the West — but it’s a myth. A thread debunking it 👇👇👇
NOW, 2 days after No Other Land was nominated for an Oscar, settlers are invading my community, Masafer Yatta, burning and breaking homes. I'm honored for the nom but we're being erased while Trump lifted US settler sanctions. Do people in Hollywood care? Please don't be silent.
Finally watched "No Other Land". Truly enthralling but heart breaking viewing of ongoing house demolitions and genocide.
Congratulations to @basel_adra, @yuval_abraham on the well-deserved Oscar nomination for Best Documentary.

In the past two days, over 32,000 people have fled #Rafah
Families look for safety, but damage & destruction is their only horizon in the #GazaStrip. No place is safe from endless bombardment.

🛑 Time for the world to listen to the children of #Gaza
"I have been in the same clothes since the war started."
"Our streets are destroyed & full of garbage."
"I want to go back to my school and friends."

Their only hope is an immediate #Ceasfire
Some facts:
-There are now more IDF forces in West Bank than in Gaza.

📍#Gaza "Any large-scale military operation among this population can only lead to an additional layer of endless tragedy that's unfolding"
@UNLazzarini: There's a sense of growing anxiety & panic in Rafah. People have absolutely no idea where to go.

In Rafah southern #Gaza, there are 1.4 million people - tens of kilometres of people living in the streets in plastic makeshift shelters.
A military offensive in the middle of these completely exposed, vulnerable people is a recipe for disaster. I am almost becoming wordless.

Three young Palestinian men, Hisham Awartani, Tahseen Ali and Kenan Abdulhamid, students at Brown and other US universities, were shot last night on their way to a family dinner in Burlington, USA. Their crime? Wearing the Palestinian keffiyeh. They are critically injured. And Six weeks ago, 6-year old Palestinian child was stabbed 26 times in a hate crime in Illinois. The hate crimes against Palestinians must stop. Palestinians everywhere need protection.
