@gansidui77@Lord_Beesus The "mechanism" is that you will accidentally fuck up and go into debt. Again, statistically, there's a 50/50 chance that this is what will happen to you. You could be doing something safer, like heroin.
@RamoFPL@Tecnoguy1@bernbirk@Lord_Beesus I don't need a go fund me. I have a credit card which I use like 95% of the world does: to occasionally make big payments I can't afford otherwise and pay it back over time.
@Tecnoguy1@RamoFPL@bernbirk@Lord_Beesus I can save up for a laptop. I can't just save up for 3 months when I don't have a work laptop because my old one broke. That's what the concept of credit is actually intended for.
@RamoFPL@Tecnoguy1@bernbirk@Lord_Beesus Are you 5 years old or do you just have a child's understanding of the world? Electronics are one of the things that are mostly not priced relative to a country's purchasing power, because they have a high base cost. How do you end up as an adult not knowing that?
@RamoFPL@Tecnoguy1@bernbirk@Lord_Beesus Welcome to another episode of not everyone lives in the fucking US. If I could afford it in one payment overnight I would be in like the top 0.1% earners in my country.
@Tecnoguy1@bernbirk@Lord_Beesus Please explain how having to keep track of a single extra expense over the next 3 months is worse than having to keep track of 700 extra expenses every month for the rest of your life.
@gansidui77@Lord_Beesus You may personally only benefit from using a credit card for the entire rest of your life. It is technically possible. Just like it is technically possible to outsmart a casino. Statistically speaking, you most likely won't though.
@o604s@Lord_Beesus You genuinely don't seem to understand that the only reason why you're incentivized to use a credit card is because the banks do want you to use it "wrong", and they're using every single psychological trick in the book to make sure you do that, so yes, it is their faults.
@WrinkledWassie@Lord_Beesus Yes, yes, and everyone goes into it with this mentality and most of them end up losing money instead. Just think for a second about how a system where most people actually save money by using credit cards would work. The banks would be the ones losing money in that case.
@gansidui77@Lord_Beesus Credit cards will save you money as long as you can outsmart a bunch of very well paid, very smart people whose entire job is to make sure that they won't actually save you money. But sure, you can do it, just like every gambler who can totally outsmart the casino.
@o604s@Lord_Beesus You don't seem to think there's a difference between spending your own money out of your pocket and spending someone else's money just because you can probably pay it back by the end of the month.
@o604s@Lord_Beesus Having to make sure that you can afford rent every month is stressful. It's worth it because the alternative is not having a fucking home. The alternative to using a credit card is just not using a credit card and nothing in your life changes.
@Tecnoguy1@bernbirk@Lord_Beesus Yes, I own a credit card. I bought a laptop with it just the other month that I couldn't have afforded otherwise. I'm just not risking going into debt over a fucking cheeseburger, that's the difference.
@o604s@Lord_Beesus So you don't have interest on your credit card payments? You don't pay extra penalties if you miss your payment deadlines? You don't get a worse deal if you do a longer-term payment plan?
@o604s@Lord_Beesus No, you're right, the banks want you in that sweet spot in which you're just broke enough that you can afford to pay all the extra penalties. And if you lose your job in Europe, you're just broke until you get a new one, you're probably not drowning in debt as well.
@o604s@Lord_Beesus Or they lose their job unexpectedly. Or they have some financial emergency. Or they simply get taken advantage of by a system that's designed to be predatory. They're not "cattle", they're victims, and the fact that you look down on them is also because of propaganda.
