Until Ghana football prioritises structure, accountability, grassroots investment, and independent governance over politics and short-term interests, the country will continue to rely on raw talent alone while falling behind better-organised football nations.

Ghana football continues to survive on individual talent and past glory rather than on a well-functioning football system. While the country remains one of Africa’s biggest producers of naturally gifted players, the structures needed to consistently develop, manage, and sustain football at all levels are weak and poorly organised. From grassroots football to the professional leagues, the foundation is fragile, inconsistent, and lacking clear direction.

Another major issue is the absence of a strong and mandatory youth development culture among many clubs. Too many professional clubs operate without serious long-term investment in player development. A compulsory academy system should therefore be introduced for every club in the top two tiers of Ghana football. Each club should be required to maintain structured youth teams from at least Under-10 level upwards across all age groups. Clubs that fail to meet youth development standards should not be licensed to compete professionally.
