Saw a tweet from a sozzled account talking trash about this poem, one of the finest poems of the 20th century, & I just want to say it's so good it has inspired a new form. So much to unpack: the symbolic 'shovel' in the subtitle, the monosyllabic word choice, its enjambment, etc
Sarah Kay’s new book is as you’d expect: beautiful.
If you could use a little poetry in your life (and who couldn’t?), check it out. Your soul will thank you.
She’s incredible! I was lucky enough to see her read last summer in Ohio.
This is from Bright Dead Things. I highly recommend that collection. So good!
I just started reading @Joy_E_Sullivan ‘s Instructions for Traveling West. Absolutely loving it. Poem after poem speaks to me. I’m so fortunate to have this book in my life.
I’ve read this poem soooo many times. Still love it every time. I was lucky enough to meet Maggie at a small reading at a public library in Cleveland. She’s every bit as cool as you’d expect. And she was so gracious with her time.
