Anybody who is anti-Pahlavi is pro-regime.

There is a time for discourse, dissent, and dialogue. That time is peace time. Then, there is emergency times. During emergency times, there is no room for umming and arring, ifs, buts, and maybes.

Let’s be clear:

The Iranian people have called on the crown prince as their transitional leader. They have not called any other name, nor have they called for a “democratic coalition” of unelected leaders.

This is not a decision about forever. It is a decision about right now. This is a state of emergency. To that end, I will say it again:

Anybody who is anti-Pahlavi is pro-regime.

What we’re hearing right now from friends and family in Iran is terrifying and urgent. Political prisoners and protesters are being taken in huge numbers, packed into makeshift sites because official prisons are full. Many are grabbed in night raids, at checkpoints, even from hospitals while they’re bleeding, then disappeared without lawyers or contact with family.

People describe torture, sexual assault, deliberate denial of food, water, and medicine, and being forced to sign or film “confessions” they’re not allowed to read. Families are threatened, made to bury loved ones at night under guard, told to lie and call murdered protesters “Basij” or “terrorists” just to get their bodies back, sometimes after paying bribes they can’t afford.

Detainees are held in warehouses, barracks, and other secret sites, with serious risk of execution after sham trials. There is an internet blackout and a militarized lockdown; armed patrols, curfews, checkpoints, and phone searches mean people can’t even gather in twos without fear of arrest.

I’m asking every U.S. Senator who sees this: treat this like the emergency it is. Demand an end to enforced disappearances, torture, and mass arrests, insist on access for independent monitors, and make any talks with Tehran conditional on freeing political prisoners and stopping these crimes right now.

To every U.S. Senator reading this: this is not “normal repression.” This is mass disappearance, torture, and killing.
You have real power here: speak publicly, demand access for independent monitors, and make clear that any talks with Tehran are conditioned on freeing political prisoners and stopping these crimes. Silence is a choice.

I’m glad the world is finally joining the anti-terrorism train, but the reality is that the reported 43,000 death toll in Iran is a direct result of legitimizing terrorism for all these years.

October 7th was the signal to hold jihadists accountable. It was the canary in the coal mine of what was coming if we didn’t.

Instead, the international conversation was about “context and nuance.” Because of that gross failure on the part of humanity, terrorists were emboldened, diplomacy continued, and international courts and organizations refused to hold the perpetrators accountable.

That inertia directly led to the Iran massacre.

This is the direct result of mass moral confusion.

For the past two years, this was the most unpopular truth of our time. It was me, a handful of non-Jewish Iranians, a Lebanese, a Yemeni, maybe 3 anti-Hamas Gazans, and the entire Jewish community. That was it. And a handful of allies.

We were harassed, bullied, doxxed, cancelled, ostracized, in some cases physically harmed. All for saying what can no longer be ignored.

Again, I’m glad that the world is finally waking up to how grotesquely immoral it is to add nuance to terrorism—to commit the cardinal sin of tolerating intolerance—but I can’t help but be fuming at the cost of international enlightenment.

Had the world had clarity after October 7th, we could have saved hundreds of hostages, thousands of Gazans from the war that ensued, and an untold number of Iranians from the terror apparatus that erased them.

The moral of the story is that when you pardon terrorism, you get terrorism.

As an Iranian, as a human, I’m just not ready to forgive the pardon that gave us the Iranian massacre.
