Tonight and tomorrow mark 85 years since 'Kristallnacht', the Night of the Broken Glass, or put another way, the first organised Nazi pogrom against the Jews ("Reichspogromnacht"). But far from it being – as Nazi propaganda presented it – a 'spontaneous' and 'justified' uprising by German citizens, it was a planned and carefully orchestrated campaign.
Shuls and Jewish businesses were destroyed - in both Germany and Austria. Jews were beaten up and taken to concentration camps. Days later, any Jewish children who remained in German schools were expelled. Jews were excluded from the social welfare system, banned from theatres and cinemas and had their driving licences rescinded.

We are heartbroken that Rebbetzen Lucy Dee has passed away following Friday's terror attack which also killed two of her daughters, Maya and Rina. Her contribution to our community was immense. Our hearts go out to Rabbi Leo and his family. May their memories be for a blessing.
