ive had thousands of calls with this exact demographic over the last decade, mostly 21-26 year olds, and they virtually all rely on 2 selling points:

1. they love sports
2. they work hard

this is probably why i hear constantly that its difficult to "stand out" for these jobs (especially at DK and FD)

1 guy who stood out for me was @ParkerSutton_3

he landed a DraftKings VIP role as a 22 year old

Example:

when i was at DK i spoke to @ParkerSutton_3

fresh out of college with a sports management degree

he loved sports and worked hard

over the next year, Parker sent me an email every couple of months

in every email he'd bring super creative ideas to the table that were hyper relevant to the job he was applying for

the ideas didnt even have to be good, just creative and thoughtful

this one below was the last one before we said, fuck it, we gotta hire this guy

Parker is one of my favorite people ive ever worked with and hes going to keep doing amazing things in the sports world

also shout out to @TheSavBananas, i think Parker was on to somethin early

shit, Michael Jordan (now the 2nd best hooper at DK) is "on the DK board" and i feel like we havent heard anything about that in years 🏀

surely if these deals drove revenue for the books we'd all read about it, no?

my take - sportsbooks go way too top-of-funnel with their marketing approach with celebs

especially DK/FD

like, their brand awareness among humans who bet sports has to be through the fucking roof. is it possible to exceed 100% awareness from your target demo? @neiltyson 🧐

why not use Lebron to actually get in front of the customers who move the $$$ needle?

bring value to the MF'n shareholders like we were raised to do!! 🙋‍♂️

the most valuable customers AKA people who can lose 6-7 figures per year, yet to join a legal sports book, are ALMOST ALL currently betting somewhere else

none of these gamblers that play on credit with a bookie (allegedly), are going to see LeParlay give out a MNF play and think "ah, now i'll send over all my bank statements, a utility bill, and wire in 500k liquid cash into the tax men." 📕

they ALL know DK & FD exist and have chosen to play elsewhere

the current set-ups for these players is too convenient

if i was Mr. Dee Kay i'd for sure scrap "Lebron Picks":

- it wont land with the customers who actually matter
- its likely to piss off the casuals who consume it because they'll lose money, think DK is "in on it", and yadda yadda

i'd come up with some intimate approaches to get those 🐳individuals🐳 on a level playing field with Lebron

their egos are too big for a standard meet n greet 🧇

you'd obv vet them first and have an amazing application process, but im thinking somethin outlandish like:

"shared investment opportunities with Lebron James"

imagine coming back from a DK hosted event telling your other business homies that you just invested in the new spiked cider with Lebron James 🍼
