A Swiss hotel once displayed a list of special rules exclusively for Indian guests which I personally saw and was appalled.
Today, videos of garba in restaurants, loud conversations in airports, and turning aircraft cabins into picnic spots keep doing the rounds. Even in Davos, an Indian businessman blasted Punjabi music in a club so the whole town could hear it, calling it “soft power” but to everyone’s annoyance.
Japan earned global admiration through their courtesy and civic sense. If India wants to be a true global superpower, the world should remember Indians for its excellence, consideration and respect for others.
Our civic sense seriously needs to be upgraded.
This clip of sports facilities created by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has gone viral globally, with comments that marvel at the optimal & beneficial use of urban space.
It is indeed a wonderful addition to Kolkata & will add to the already transforming image of the city.
Happily, this isn't the first example of such urban ingenuity in India.
Indore pioneered the concept in 2021 by transforming the space beneath the Pipliyahana flyover into an exclusive sports complex. Since then, cities like Surat, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Vadodara have followed suit.
In 2023, I had posted about a similar transformation in Navi Mumbai, hoping it would spark a nationwide trend.
While many states, Odisha being a prime example, are building world-class centralized hubs, the real shift happens in the neighborhood.
By dispersing sports access into everyday urban spaces, we do more than build courts; we nurture a sporting mindset and culture from the ground up.
In Kerala, apparently you can now call a coconut harvester the same way you book a cab.
A uniformed professional arrives on a cycle, equipped, trained, and ready to work.
We often speak about India’s services economy in terms of IT exports or global capability centres.
But we’re digitising even our most traditional, hyper-local services.
There was another detail from this video that stayed with me.
The young man who climbed those trees was from Chhattisgarh.
When I began my career in our Group’s steel business, many of of our associates working in our furnace and foundry shops had come from states like Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, travelling far from home in search of opportunity.
Today, it seems those same aspirations are finding avenues not just in heavy industry, as in the past, but in new-age, tech-enabled services.
People moving, adapting and rising are a powerful economic force.
And also a force for integration.
As long as they’re welcomed by the host states!
The Kashmir to Kanyakumari (K2K) cycling expedition's flag-off ceremony took place today at TRC Stadium Srinagar. Secretary J&K Sports Council, Ms. Nuzhat Gul, flagged off the expedition.
This stretch of road from Chintalpalli and Lakkavaram is in need of urgent repairs. It's a nightmare for people living in villages here, very frustrating to deal with such unsafe conditions every day for past 5 years!! Hoping for immediate relief!!

Home to 734 plant species, 220 bird species, spotted deer, wild boars, pythons, and even four-horned antelopes—is about to be erased for commercial, residential spaces like IT parks.
400 acres of thriving wilderness in Gachibowli, home to deer, birds, reptiles, and centuries-old trees—soon to be nothing but rubble and dust. A lush ecosystem that cleans our air, cools our city, and cradles biodiversity is being sacrificed at the altar of concrete and commerce.
This land isn’t empty. It breathes. It sustains. It shelters. Migratory birds fly here. Rare species find refuge here. Life thrives here.
Hyderabad is already gasping for breath—can we afford to lose our last green refuges? Can we justify erasing an entire world for yet another IT park?
Will we let greed erase what nature took centuries to build? Will we stand by as Hyderabad loses its green heart?

As if the DAILY CHAOS on roads wasn't enough, these are cropping up everywhere. These not only block footpaths and roads but are made of iron dammit!!! Disasters waiting to happen, courtsey our great political parties and authorities who okay this!
It’s disheartening that some politicians prioritize their own visibility over the safety and convenience of the public.
A hoarding completely covering a traffic light post is not just an eyesore; it’s a potential hazard.
The Hussainsagar looked so scenic this morning. But a closer look showed how terribly it's maintained!!! Imagine all such muck blocking rainwater flow into nalas and lakes! LOOKS LIKE HYD IS ALL SET FOR MONSOON MAYHEM?

@thirumalaiahae@GHMCOnline@CommissionrGHMC The trash has not been cleared. These pics were taken today. Kindly put up high metal barricades in the entire area as people are using this as a regular dumping ground. Also restore the barricade near Hanuman Temple across this spot.
Hoping to see the work done soon.

What's more important? The clearing of trash dumped under Begumpet flyover, or the beautification of the area around it? Much money spent on beautification; as garbage gets dumped in hussainsagar!! Please clear n fence entire area under the bridge.
