After an absolutely fascinating year at the National Taiwan Normal University, I am happy to announce that since the beginning of October I am now based at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. As a poet wrote so truely: There is some magic in every new beginning.
Very excited to be able to participate and contribute to a fascinating conference on Marriage and Extramarital Relationships at the French Court, organized by @Pauline_FV and @L_Flavie .

Excited to start a fellowship at the National Taiwan Normal University, made possible by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology. Looking forward to twelve months of new experiences, venturing into a new project.
Sadly, the academic year at #HistorischesKolleg, #IAS is drawing to a close. Many thanks to my wonderful fellow fellows, the HiKo staff, and the magnificent garden, for making this such a productive and pleasant year! Despite the circumstances. @PascalFirges

Here the original: "Quand on a essuyé tout l’ennui d’un ouvrage sec, scolastique, embarrassé, on s’aperçoit qu’on a pris une peine infinie pour entendre ce qu’on savait avant d’avoir ouvert ce livre."
"After having suffered all the boredom of a dry, scholastic, awkward book, one realizes that one has taken infinite pains only to learn something one had already known before opening this book."
A perfectly Twitter-compatible slate review by Guillaume-Thomas Raynal in his 'Nouvelles littéraires'. The book in question was the French translation of 'Inquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of Beauty and Virtue' by Francis Hutcheson.

My medievalist colleague Vanina Kopp in Paris has kindly collected many of the current free online access offers for books in one thread. Thanks Vanina!

If you are on lockdown #confinement like me, you might find it helpful to have a compilation of recent free online ressources (though some require institutional access). This thread is not exhaustive, but I hope it helps:
