@ket38111 The idea is that you so thoroughly know the text and the outline of the sermon that notes are not relied upon. But he does encourage writing the sermon out so you get certain phrases nailed down. But not preaching from a manuscript.
@ket38111 He does encourage this on some level. But in his book on preaching it is not just stand up and preach, though he believed you should be able to do that. He encouraged a lot writing and immersion in the text.
I heard that it was recommended that folks read deeply in the Reformed tradition to learn what Reformed theology teaches about the duties of the civil magistrate with regard to religion.
So, be sure to read folks like:
Calvin
Turretin
Bullinger

Sam Storms summarizes:
"There is no indication in the NT that the spiritual gift of pastoring, unlike the office of Elder, is gender specific. The Holy Spirit may well grant this gift to both men and women. Therefore, I believe that one may continue to embrace a biblically based complementarianism while speaking of certain women as βpastorsβ in the local church."
He shall not show partiality nor take a bribe for a bribe blinds the eyes of wise and twists the words of the righteous. Deuteronomy 16:19
Many, if not most of our civil leaders, love money and are open to bribery of various kinds. Therefore there is no justice.
An evergreen quote from Livy: "Believe me for young men like us there is no peril from an armed foe to be compared with the peril of being surrounded by with opportunities for sensual enjoyment."
