@leifweatherby Great sessions. I would love to be there, but I can't leave Vienna. Is there a possibility to stream the conference or read it afterward?
#Etymologie-Funfact:
"Individuals tend to apply ‘market principles to how they think about themselves [...] and display their identity’ (@alicetiara 2013: 7), imaging ‘authenticity’ [...] not merely as self-presentation strategies, but as a means to make oneself a commodity". (133) #microcelebrity
Reading "Theorizing Digital Cultures" by @grantbollmer (2018) is very inspiring and enlightening. In the following comments, I share my reading highlights with you 👇
"Our identities have long been partial and fragmentary. But today, we’re increasingly told [eg. by social platforms] that we only have one identity, and we should make that single identity visible to others." (132-133)
"Stiegler links the many psychic traumas that we face today, such as depression, to an inability to be either an individual or part of a larger collective, a condition that Stiegler relates to how media tend to synchronize time and experience." (75)
Intriguing quote at page 44 from John Durham Peters: ‘We are conditioned by conditions we condition. We, the created creators, shape tools that shape us. We live by our crafts and conditions’ (2015: 51).
