@carolinehe_3 For sure. The advertisers are able to pinpoint more directly certain users (by the social media platforms they use). I believe that these companies are having a greater effect on people because of how much time people spend on social media creating more sales. #uwj201
@ktsokanos I think doing creative tasks that will get the brands name out there in a positive light is an incredibly effective PR tool a company can use. A lot of planning for all of the potential outcomes is needed, though it is a very good tool to use because of the interactivity #uwj201
@DernCharlie To push a belief that their company has. Nowadays these strong messages are becoming more prominent within these corporations and the expressing of beliefs of this magnitude has a serious impact on our culture today. #uwj201
@afontaine4504 Very much so. I feel as if everyone has a little experience with these specialized information bits that companies present to the consumer and as tech gets more advanced we will only experience this more and in greater depth because of how effective it already is. #uwj201
Getting the news on social media is an increasingly popular trend over the past few years. How often do you get your news do you get from social media and from what platform(s)? #uwj201
@zachausavich I would say having a diverse network will allow you to have a better understanding of many more issues than just a network of depth. Both I feel are beneficial, though the diversity is surely the superior aspect of a network. #uwj201
@madisondavalle I typically will look for news stories that I either find particularly interesting according to my likes and dislikes or stories that are making headlines and I am just curious about. I am not the best at being the most informed in the news, though if I want to be I can. #uwj201.
How far do you believe the polarization between the political parties in the United States go with regards to emotional topics? Will it continue to increase? If so how far will it go? #uwj201
@alpert_justin Yes, the charts seen in lecture today sort of illustrated how the polarization is so extreme when you compare the different political ideologies. Though maybe not all issues are as polarized, I believe the trend is that we are a more polarized society than ever before. #uwj201
@hola_its_ola I believe it is because of the abundance of media the United States has and how much of it is available. This paired with the extremely polarized political environment of the United States makes this such an extreme magnitude comparatively speaking. #uwj201
Do you feel as if politicians who say misleading or false information face criticism that will actually affect the publicβs perception of them? Or is it more of a fleeting event? #uwj201
@yeony_sim I believe that most of the mainstreamed news media is quite transparent. Though with advocacy comes some bending of the truth and with other less popular media outlets I believe the transparency starts fading because of less fact checking. #uwj201
@Gracie77702889 @sooyunkim_ I think that social media makes polling easier and more widely accessible. But with the sampling of those polls itβs so hard to determine how accurate it is, therefore it isnβt likely the most accurate interpretation. #uwj201
@cmolson7 I think that surveillance has the biggest impact out of the four functions. This is because without the surveillance to determine the newsworthiness, none of the other functions would be relevant -meaning there wouldnβt be anything that has been deemed worthy to cover. #uwj201
@zoeios22 If there were certain sources that people could link factual or opinion based off of more easily it would be ideal. As we discussed in class today people are bad at remembering where their news came from, which is why this would help. #uwj201
