Rep Maria Elvira Salazar says we’ve been fooled by the Cuban government. But listening to her own argument, it sounds more like she’s fooling herself.
When I pointed out that Cuba maintained universal healthcare and education while under U.S. sanctions, Maria Elvira didn’t deny it. She said Cuba was receiving support from the Soviet Union.
Exactly. Cuba was under sanctions, received resources from an ally, and used them to fund social programs. Today, instead of allowing Cuba to trade and develop normally, Washington doubles down on economic punishment.
You can criticize the Cuban government all you want. But after more than 60 years, collective punishment has not brought democracy. It has only made life harder for ordinary Cubans.
END THE BLOCKADE NOW!
Future generations won’t ask whether pigs deserved to move.
They’ll ask how we ever convinced ourselves that they didn’t.
@KLiamGray is right. Senate Republicans should oppose the nefarious Save Our Bacon Act.
Trump promised not to “touch” Medicaid.
Now he is cutting it by $1 trillion and taking health care away from patients with cancer, AIDS and other life-threatening diseases to pay for tax breaks to the top 1% and his wealthy campaign contributors.
Unimaginable cruelty.
The federal government just banned bison from public land in Montana.
Not cattle.
Bison.
Interior Secretary Burgum revoked grazing permits for 950 bison
on 63,000 acres of federal land in northeastern Montana.
The reason?
Bison raised for conservation don't count as livestock
under a 1934 law.
Bison raised for meat and milk? Fine.
Bison raised to restore a native species to its native land? Get out.
Meanwhile, cattle ranchers across the West keep grazing on your land.
For $1.69 a month.
One cow. One calf. Thirty days. $1.69.
On land that belongs to every American.
The Cheyenne River Sioux. The Coalition of Large Tribes —
50+ Native nations. Defenders of Wildlife.
They all filed formal protests.
They called it exactly what it is.
"DEI for cows."
The bison have until September 30 to be gone.
Who decided cattle belong on public land more than bison do?

Just take the Albanian Island deal. Jared and Ivanka secured a $1.4 billion resort on Sazan, a protected island on state land. By his own account, he was introduced to Albania's prime minister on the Rothschilds' yacht. Ivanka called the place a "private island" they "discovered." Albanian prosecutors have now opened a corruption inquiry into how that land lost its protected status.
It’s all talk. Just withhold foreign aid to Israel for a month and they’ll stop bombing their neighbors - instant peace, the Strait of Hormuz can be opened, and gas drops $2 a gallon. Israel has been, and continues to be, the biggest welfare recipient from American tax payers.
I've been working on farm animal protection for a while now, and I haven't seen anything quite like what's happening around the Save Our Bacon Act.
People who have never organized before, including some genuinely prominent voices, are hosting events, calling senators, and fundraising from friends. And those of us who have been here a while, across many ideological divides and every strategic disagreement, are showing up together.
We've always punched above our weight (out of necessity!), but this feels substantively very different. The political and social cost of supporting this barbarism is finally rising.
@ThrillaRilla369 Money for good grades ?? My parents explained to me that their tax dollars paid for me to get a good education which could lead to better opportunities . Good grades were my job not compulsory but highly recommended .
