Such an honour to have been selected to present an abstract on 'Cost Utility Analysis of Dialysis Modalities in Kenya' during #HTAsiaLink2022 conference in Pattaya, Thailand.
Today marked a historic day in our journey to institutionalize HTA in Nigeria as the HNCMHSW inaugurated the National HTA Steering Committee. The SC is responsible for the oversight and guidance on HTA in Nigeria, especially on topic selection and final recommendations on HTA.
On Sunday morning I received an early call. I’d woken up fifteen minutes earlier, about to begin my morning exercise ritual, my sacred hour, no phones until I am done. But when the phone lit up and I saw my niece’s name, someone I had not spoken to in a long while, I just knew.
What people don't know is HIV is the laziest of all viruses.
If not for how smart it is by hiding inside the cell and being impossible to eradicate.
HIV is lame.
HIV doesn't actually do anything to kill you. It simply takes away your ability to fight infection.
If you take your drugs regularly, HIV becomes an harmless infection.
But you see diabetes, cancer or hepatitis.
Those things actually work day and night just like Tinubu with the intention of seeing your demise.
Thrilled our Nigerian EQ-5D-5L value set study has been published. This is a significant milestone in using locally generated data to conduct HTA studies in the country. From the training in Rotterdam, to data collection in Nigeria, it has been a long journey that was worth it.
Yesterday 16 girls burned alive in Gilgil.
GILGIL. A town so militarized you can’t throw a stone without hitting a uniform.
NYS. KDF. GSU. AP. All there. All useless. All absent.
Children screamed and burned and not one boot moved.
But one call from Washington and say there’s money on the table? We SPRINT.
A father is this morning at the mortuary identifying his daughter by her bones in desperation.
A mother while driving to utumishi girls academy in a panic had a road accident and died on the way.
The entire government was at a Prayer Breakfast. Praying. To GOD.
The same God whose house they built on the graves of children they failed.
We sent our police to die in Haiti’s streets.
We’re constructing Ebola wards for Americans who Trump himself said are too precious to bring home.
And we cannot, WILL NOT unlock a dormitory door for a 15 year old Kenyan girl on fire.
This is not incompetence.
Incompetence is accidental.
This is a rotten value system.
This is who we chose to be.
Our children are worth nothing and foreign dollars are worth everything and we have PROVEN this over and over and over again.
St. Kizito 1991. Kyanguli 2001. Endarasha 2024. Utumishi 2026.
Same story. Same promises. Same graves.
The Bible said the love of money is the root of all evil. Kenya didn’t read that as a warning. We read it as a manual.
We fast. We tithe. We fill stadiums for overnight prayers.
And then we go back to work building Ebola hotels for foreigners while our daughters burn in wooden dormitories.
We are not a failed state.
Failed states don’t know better.
We KNOW. We choose.
Every single time, we choose money over our children and we wrap it in a flag and a prayer and call it governance.
We are demons wearing suits and holding Bibles and we should never again have the audacity to say “Oh no, not again” because we did this.
WE did this. Kenyans Did this knowingly!
NOT AGAIN means NOTHING if we keep being exactly who we are. 🇰🇪🔥💔

Harambee Stars are dejected, not rejected.
They galvanised us in a way no other team or event has in the recent past. Their performance at CHAN allowed us to put our differences aside and celebrate being Kenyan once again.
We had really missed that.

📢 New Publication: We're excited to share our latest article: "Policy strategies to enhance uptake of conservative kidney management in advanced chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis"
Kidney replacement therapy may not always appropriate for people with end-stage kidney disease. Conservative kidney mangement (CKM) offers a valuable alternative for suitable patients, yet, uptake remains low. This systematic review evaluates policy-level strategies to improve the adoption.
🔍 Key insights:
• Educational interventions and trainings for patients and families did not significantly increase CKM preference
• Strategies focused on changing healthcare services—those involving prognostic assessment and clinician feedback—were significantly associated with increased CKM utilization.
• Findings are based on seven studies, mostly observational—highlighting the need for more robust evidence.
🏥 Implication: Enhancing clinical decision-making pathways may be more effective than standalone education or training in increasing CKM uptake.

Africa must end the exports of its raw materials. The export of raw materials is the door to poverty. The export of value-added products is the highway to wealth. And Africa is tired of being poor.
