I started Patriot Caps because I wanted Australians to have a cap worth wearing.
I'm Michael β Afghan veteran, current firefighter, and someone who believes Australian pride is worth wearing every day. Premium quality, designs that mean something, and a cause behind every purchase.
5% of every sale goes to Swiss 8, a veteran-led charity supporting Australian veterans' mental health and wellbeing. When you buy a cap, you're part of something bigger.

Fair challenge, but running an ethical business and supporting veterans aren't mutually exclusive. 5% of every sale goes to Swiss 8.
As for manufacturing, we're upfront about it: blanks come from Asia, same as basically every cap brand and even the Australian Olympic uniform. All embroidery, heat pressing, and finishing is done here by Australian tradespeople.
By that logic, every flag manufacturer and Australia Day retailer is also "just in it for profit." Selling something you believe in doesn't make the belief fake, that's just what a business is.
Beyond the business side, this brand is about bringing people together, giving Australians a way to show they're genuinely proud of this country, whatever their background. That's the point of it, not just the profit.
Blanks are made in Asia, same as virtually every cap brand worldwide, there's no viable local manufacturer for structured cotton caps in Australia. All embroidery, heat pressing, and finishing is done here though, and 5% of every sale goes to Swiss 8 for veterans.

@camcutts Yep, blanks are from Asia, same as basically every cap brand out there, including the Australian Olympic uniform and Cricket Australia's kit. Embroidery, finishing, and craftsmanship all happen right here in Australia though. Explained why here: https://t.co/OmEyqIvyvO
@Tom12060161 We're against racism, full stop. This brand is for anyone proud to call Australia home, no matter their race or background. The Southern Cross belongs to all of us.

@Switchovernow Appreciate that, mate. Funny how the loudest people are always the noisy minority, the vast majority have been genuinely amazing and supportive of what we're building. π
@Perafunk Actually the opposite, "patriot" is Greek in origin (patris, meaning homeland), long before the US existed. Every country gets to have patriots, it's not a "yank" thing, it's just pride in where you're from.
Fair question. Worth noting we sell both trucker caps and structured 100% cotton caps, priced differently since the materials and construction aren't the same.
On the margin point, even in a relatively cheap category like apparel, finding a new customer through ads isn't free, and it adds up fast. Once you factor that in alongside the cost of the cap itself, GST, and the 5% donation, there's a lot less left over from a $60-69 sale than people assume from the sticker price.
We're also a small business just starting out, so we're ordering in small quantities right now, not the bulk volumes that get big brands massive discounts. That pricing advantage comes with scale, and we're not there yet.
Got called every name under the sun for this. Then the orders started rolling in.
Never let anyone talk you out of being proud of your country.

@CRUXof_it Thanks mate, we are doing what we can in Australia to support other Australian businesses. the Eureka Flag is one of the next designs on my list! π¦πΊ
@elwebbo8 We're Australian, based in Melbourne. No country owns the word "patriot", it's Greek in origin, not American. It just means love of your homeland, every country has them.
@DiscoBanana77 Thanks for the lead but Nublank's stock is imported too, Vietnam and China, same as literally everyone in this category. There's no Aussie cap manufacturing to speak of.
Blanks are made overseas, Even the Australian Olympic uniforms and Cricket Australia's kit are made overseas. RM Williams, as Aussie as it gets, makes some products in China too. If national teams and heritage brands can't manufacture structured garments locally at scale, a small cap brand genuinely can't either. We focus on what we can control: design, embroidery, and finishing, all done here.
@grmillsie Also I should add, we only launched 2 weeks ago so we genuinely don't have enough sales data yet to know our real margins after ads, freight, and COGS. 5% is what we can confidently commit to today. That's a floor, not a cap.
All black. All cotton. Flag on the front, not on your sleeve.
We made the Southern Cross and Union Jack tonal because the message doesn't need to shout β it just needs to be there.
5% of profit to Swiss 8. Built for the ones who carried the weight first.

@Himynameisjen2@carcus124 Appreciate you looking, but the site you linked confirms exactly what I said. Their own FAQ states their factories are located in China. There isn't a hidden local cap manufacturer out there, it's the same reality across the whole industry, including the "Australian" companies.o
