Intel on Patriots 2nd round pick Gabe Jacas
Per: @MikeReiss
“Jacas hasn't been with the Patriots since May, according to a source. His absence is tied, in part, to not being given a standard "participation agreement" from the Patriots, according to a source. Most draft picks receive such an agreement, which states that if they were to sustain an injury prior to signing their first NFL contract, the team would still be obligated to sign him to a contract based on the slot he was drafted.”
Jacas had a knee “clean up” procedure this spring which was potentially not disclosed to the team.
Messy. Very messy.
Hopefully done soon.
#Patriots DE Gabe Jacas is the lone second-round pick from the 2026 NFL Draft class who has not signed their rookie contract.
The Bengals recently signed second-round pick Cashius Howell, leaving just Jacas unsigned.
Such a strange situation…
Question: How are things going with you and A.J. Brown?
Drake Maye: “It’s hard not to get excited. What a player he is. And what a great teammate so far – he’s eager to learn, great with the guys in the locker room, and we just look forward to playing with a guy of that caliber.
“He’s been a great player in this league. Everywhere he’s gone, he’s been a guy that you see on SportsCenter the next day making plays, and scoring.
“The best thing about him -- he’s been a winner. He adds something to that room we were kind of looking for. I think Stef provided it for us last year and there have been guys growing in their roles, but just coming in with that stature, and his ability and his size, and just the respect you walk in there with that kind of Stef had; A.J.’s got it too.”
Patriots offseason check-in:
🏈6th organized team activity today (closed to media)
🏈Mandatory minicamp now June 9-11 (instead of June 15-17)
🏈Rookies stay after minicamp ... while rest of roster breaks before start of training camp in range of July 25ish (official date TBA)
From the always-competing department:
With fully-participating-in-practice WRs opening it up to top speed yesterday, Pop Douglas (3) and Kyle Williams (18) take it down to the wire.
WR A.J. Brown on choosing No. 1 instead of 11: Wanted to respect Julian Edelman, even though he had Edelman’s blessing, and it brings him back to his roots.
🚨🚨TRADE ALERT🚨🚨
