Attorney letter ended CA Civil Rights Department Dir. @KevinKish_CRD & Quality Assurance & Reporting Manager Olga Gonzalez’s efforts to circumvent the Public Records Act. Complaints now updated through early 2022. Jump over to Threads @thepatternistheproof for all future updates.
1/4 Since 2019 this org has occasionally run ads to make the public aware of aggregated gov’t data.
An ad last month promoting civil rights data resulted in an ad ban (one of @Twitter’s largest shareholders, Elon Musk/Tesla, receives a high volume of civil rights complaints).
@TwitterSupport I am trying to submit a ticket in your advertiser help portal. It’s frozen here at ‘Submitting form…’ No confirmation on the page or by email. I tried with multiple browsers & also let it sit like this overnight in case the attachment has a very slow upload.
4/4 Alternatively, here’s a Twitter ad that openly advocates for ‘domestic policy issues.’ No ban.
The obvious inference is that some portion of Twitter ad bans are purely self-serving, protecting its corporate interests without regard to objective standards.

3/4 Here’s the offending tweet. You can see for yourself that it references no candidate, election, nor legislation & conveys no opinion whatsoever—political or otherwise.
This account has never done any fundraising & doesn’t have as much as a tip jar.
@PatternAsProof@CalDFEH This is awesome. I was looking for a database last year and was disappointed at how involved it was to look up cases. I wish they had 2021's report out.

3/3 My own #CALeg Assemblymember @alex_lee was asked a month ago whether anonymity for natural person respondents was appropriate and has thus far refused to reply. @ your rep and see whether you have more luck.
#California#DFEH Context
Tesla is a good case study for how few complaints *may* correspond to widespread discrimination. In DIAZ v TESLA (2017), a jury found & a judge confirmed on appeal that ‘the Tesla factory was saturated with racism.’
@SVpainindex@SJSUHumanRights @siliconvalleycf @alfsv @surjsacredheart @svdebug@SVRising You may want to compare discrimination complaints & determinations for Tech & the Bay to the rest of California.
Below screen grab from https://t.co/s8nkPc6cG1 shows @Twitter had a single discrimination complaint filed with @CalDFEH in four years. If the sale to Musk goes through, how will the change in ownership affect complaint count?

@tom_hynes@SylviaPuente8@CalDFEH You are confusing discrimination with defamation. DFEH enforces discrimination complaints. There are alternative legal remedies available for a business or person falsely accused. Landlords & employers can check the public records for anyone found liable for defamation. Muted.
@SylviaPuente8@tom_hynes@CalDFEH That’s why this tweet from San Jose PD was attached to the thread. Anyone can be accused of anything. So how the complaint was ultimately decided matters (column ‘Close Reason’ in the database). Also, a fraudulent complainant opens themselves up to paying court costs.
#California#DFEH About the data (con’t)
4,593 records have no respondent name due to redactions.
DFEH should release all names. Surely, if we can give these people accused of murder (image) the presumption of innocence, the same can be done for discrimination accusations.
Californians pay DFEH $40M per year to investigate discrimination claims & to protect Californians from discrimination. This database presents the results of those investigations as reported by DFEH itself. The public can decide whether the agency is achieving its stated mission.
@PatternAsProof@tom_hynes@CalDFEH But anyone can complain to your database and be given the golden throne of integrity? Sounds like you have created the creepy-uncle version of YELP. I don’t see this becoming a problem at all.
