@rbarbosa91 This is an important concept! Tying up in the air to keep the loop large is essential when you are tying with double armed suture (needle at each end) and keeping both needles on, a technique often used in CV surgery. It allows the needle to pass through the loop easily.

@rbarbosa91 Great post! French is not always the outer diameter, however. For vascular access sheaths, the 'French' refers to the inner diameter of the sheath, while for catheters, it refers to the outer diameter. Here is a photo of 5Fr arterial catheter going through a 5Fr sheath.
