Rejections hurt. The writer feels sad for herself, but there's wistfulness on behalf of the work's characters too. Even though these characters don't 'exist,' the writer feels real regret at the thought of them not having a life beyond the unpublished ms. #amquerying #amwriting

Just in the supermarket and saw a hand soap whose packaging proudly proclaimed the stuff was 'non-toxic.' Are my standards for hand-washing products idealistically high or should 'non-toxic' pretty much be a given when it comes to soap!? 😃

Just read a wonderful article about strategies now being used in schools to work with dyslexic students. My own dyslexia wasn't diagnosed until I was 16, but so glad that the next generation have such fantastic resources and tactics to use as they move through their education.

If I ever do get a novel published, I'll have to give my dog co-writer credit. Every time I hit a block in the novel, I just take him for a long walk, think the plot point through, and I usually have a solution by the time we're home again! Couldn't do it without him #amwriting

It's hard to think of a more perfect object than a book. Especially a used book, preferably old, with yellowing pages and that faintly musty smell. And, if the universe has been very kind, some thoughtful marginalia left like a gift by someone years earlier #WorldBookDay

On #WorldBookDay, I'm thinking about how books have shaped my life. I was a very reluctant reader and student as a child (the dyslexia was part of it, no doubt), but Dickens' Great Expectations, in my teens, somehow sparked a life long passion for writing, education and reading.

Don't like to take sides with my cat and dog, but some days my dog is totally a saint and my cat is a bit of a jerk. Cat attacked dog this morning; whole thing happened in 2 seconds, from ambush to flight. Dog's response: slowly climb with resignation but dignity into a chair.
