As the UK enters its third heatwave of the year it couldn't be clearer: we need to end our reliance on fossil fuels.
We'd like to remind Andy Burnham that approving new oil and gas licences is a climate crime. It won't deliver energy security and it won't take a penny off our bills.
The only way to deliver cheaper, secure, homegrown energy is to invest rapidly in renewable power.
@MarinaPurkiss Most attacked politician in the UK for decades? Not heard of Jo Cox then? Sure Nigel was "attacked" twice and Jo was attacked once... but I feel like people should treat milkshake attacks differently from knife attacks and shootings.
@LeftieStats FPTP has a lot to answer for:
*Tories get 1.5x the Lib Dems... 4x their seat count
* Greens get 2x the Tory result... 1.5x their seat count
* Labour barely beat the Greens... 1.5x their seat count.
* I don't like Reform or "Other" but their result is even more undemocratic.
@NicCicutti Epic.
Well done for standing up to paid trolls, Russian operatives and social media bots.
You're right, obviously so. Caring for others, supporting them and fighting for your beliefs all while covering multiple portfolios (most MPs just have one or two) is clearly exhausting.
"All we're doing is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic whilst ignoring the huge iceberg that's causing it to sink." ๐ข
British politics is broken. It's been broken for a long time.
Just replacing this or that politician won't fix it. It's time for system change.
@carla_denyer Now that is said... I know how hard you work, I helped you campaign. Everyine, no matter who they are, needs some downtime at some point. Take care of yourself.
@carla_denyer I want to be comforting... but first I'll respond to complaints about this. Nobody wants their MP to need a break due to burn out, an MP that cares and works hard enough to risk burnout is better than one that doesn't. Some politicians won't burn out, their voters are not happy.
@bob_bobbings1@implausibleblog I get it, but this isn't a real issue. Battery storage does a lot of balancing and, though weather isn't reliable, every day somewhere will be windy or sunny. Don't get me wrong, I want nuclear power, but for a side effects... experience with radiation & medical isotope access.
The far right might be loud.
But we know that hope is louder, love is brighter and unity is stronger.
We wonโt let division define us.

@SangitaMyska@AlexCrawfordSky This makes me so angry. It's unbelievable that people would act this way. That's particularly true of the guys pretending he's some kind of "viking", I mean, he's a guy who spends his time on the internet, insulting women he's never met, he can calm down about being a warrior.
@LeftieStats@qurralo Also, Green Parties have done well in several countries. The German Greens have done quite well recently and at one point were the bookies favourites to supply the new Chancellor (a bit like a president) and in New Zealand Greens were part of a governing coalition for years.
@Pr0jectZeus @ElectionMapsUK@Moreincommon_ The more you hear & see Reform the more they look like rebranded Tories with anger issues. On the flip side many people with money and power have made it super obvious that they can't stand the Greens. People who vote against "the establishment" may switch from Reform to Green.
"While votes at 16 is a historic step, how motivated will young voters feel when, for so many, their vote will almost certainly change nothing?
The most powerful thing we could do is to give them a system in which their votes actually matter." ๐ฏ

Well that's that then. It's official.
๐ Vote Green to stop Reform
๐ Vote Green because they have the best candidate
๐ Vote Green because they have the best policies
@LilithGMarshell@ZackPolanski While you're right that politics should focus on issues, not policing/defending typos its also true that X is a bad place for details because post space is limited.
That said, the Greens have policies that can help people and, if you ignore typos, details are available online.
@diannahaze I was a massive fan of the content you made as @thephysicsgirl, your energy and enthusiasm was infectious. Like so many others who follow you now I'm so happy to hear about every small step you take in getting better. I wish you all the luck for the future.
