In Daudu Community, Makurdi Local Government Area of #benuestate, @CCFNigeria, with funding support from the @Refugees, and @unhcrnigeria, distributed solar household kits to herder households residing along the Zongo–Tatyough Road. The intervention forms part of broader efforts to improve safety, protection, and living conditions for vulnerable populations.
To further enhance community safety, solar streetlights have been installed in both herder and farmer #communities, improving visibility at night and enabling households to carry out essential activities after dark with reduced exposure to protection risks, including snake bites. For beneficiaries, the solar kits provide a reliable source of lighting while contributing to improved living conditions, greater security, and peace of mind.
The intervention reflects the commitment of @CCFNigeria, with support from @unhcrnigeria, to inclusive protection, ensuring vulnerable populations are reached without discrimination while promoting peaceful coexistence and stronger relationships between communities.
Caritas Nigeria together with @unhcrnigeria remains committed to building safer and more peaceful communities where everyone can live with dignity and hope.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, describing it as timely and helpful in making life in the camp easier. Through continued collaboration, @CCFNigeria and @unhcrnigeria are helping displaced families navigate the challenges of displacement while working towards safer, more resilient communities.

For displaced families in #benuestate, returning home means rebuilding lives and restoring livelihoods. With funding support from @Refugees, @CCFNigeria is implementing interventions to support displacement-affected populations across communities in Makurdi and Guma Local Government Areas of #benuestate. The intervention includes Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) for shelter reconstruction, as well as Solarization through the distribution of household solar kits, Installation of streetlights, and Protection (PROTECT and Case Management).
More than 2000 #beneficiaries have received the first tranche of shelter assistance, enabling them to procure essential construction materials, including blocks, sharp sand, and cement, and commence the reconstruction of their homes. The shelter assistance is supporting affected households to rebuild their homes and facilitate their transition towards safe, dignified, and sustainable return.
To assess progress and ensure accountability, Caritas Nigeria is conducting Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) across affected communities in Makurdi and Guma LGAs, including Yelewata, Tatyough, and Tyomu. The exercise assesses beneficiaries’ progress, verifies the availability and use of construction materials, and determines their readiness for the release of the second #tranche of assistance.

Reliable reporting is vital to protecting vulnerable communities.
To strengthen the Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) system in Benue State, UNHCR, in partnership with @CCFNigeria, distributed solar kits to key community informants in Yelewata, Tatyough, North Bank 1, and North Bank 2 communities across Guma and Makurdi LGAs.
The solar kits will provide a reliable power source for charging tablets and other devices used with the Protect Tool, enabling uninterrupted reporting of protection incidents and timely early warning alerts. Beneficiaries also received guidance on the installation, operation, and maintenance of the kits to ensure long-term use.
This initiative strengthens community-based protection, enhances early risk detection, and supports timely humanitarian responses for displaced persons and host communities.

Following the recent armed attack on Effeyi Utikpi Ugboju Community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, which led to the loss of lives, injuries, displacement of families, and destruction of homes, @CCFNigeria, with support from the United Nations High Commissioner for @Refugees, provided emergency humanitarian assistance to affected residents.
This intervention formed part of a joint humanitarian assessment mission coordinated by the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (Benue-SEMA) on 31 July 2026. The mission assessed the immediate needs of affected households by profiling families who lost loved ones or were displaced to identify their protection concerns and humanitarian needs, enabling the rapid delivery of critical emergency assistance to the most vulnerable.
As part of the emergency response, Caritas Nigeria, with UNHCR support, distributed essential relief materials from the UNHCR emergency stockpile to affected households. The items provided included Type B stainless steel kitchen sets, long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets, mats, solar lamps, and blankets. These relief items are intended to help families address urgent basic needs and improve their living conditions in the aftermath of the attack and displacement.
#Caritas Nigeria and #UNHCR reiterated their commitment to supporting conflict-affected communities and ensuring that vulnerable populations continue to receive timely and appropriate humanitarian assistance. Additional support interventions will be considered upon completion and validation of the profiling and assessment data collected during the mission.

@CCFNigeria and @Refugees hosted a high-level delegation comprising Ambassadors from four European Union Member States, namely Sweden, Spain, Belgium, and Finland. The delegation was accompanied by the UNHCR Country Representative, Arjun Jain; the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir James Iorpuu; and the Director-General of Benue State Homeland Security, Air Commodore Jacob Gbanwuan, on a field mission to selected project sites across Benue State.
The visit provided the delegation with an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the humanitarian assistance and protection activities being implemented by UNHCR through Caritas Nigeria in support of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in Yelwata, Makurdi, Tyo Mu, and Tatyough.
During the mission, the delegation interacted directly with affected populations, community leaders, Peace Committees, and humanitarian partners. Discussions focused on key areas including community-based protection, peacebuilding and social cohesion, the PROTECT Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) system, shelter support, livelihood initiatives, and the pursuit of durable solutions for displaced communities.
The mission also enabled the delegation to assess progress achieved so far while identifying ongoing challenges, such as insecurity, limited access to basic services, rising construction costs, and the lack of functional health and educational facilities in Tatyough.
The visit underscores the importance of sustained collaboration among government institutions, humanitarian organizations, development partners, and community structures to strengthen protection mechanisms, foster peaceful coexistence, enhance sustainable livelihood opportunities, and advance durable solutions for displaced and host communities across Benue State.

The initiative underscores a shared commitment to improving protection outcomes, building community resilience, and supporting durable solutions for displaced and host communities.
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved and reaffirmed the state's commitment to supporting partnerships that promote peace, protection, and sustainable recovery. As part of ongoing efforts to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in Benue State, @CCFNigeria , in partnership with @unhcrnigeria , conducted a supervision and monitoring visit to the ongoing perimeter fence construction at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Yelewata.
The joint monitoring exercise, carried out by Caritas Nigeria engineers and the UNHCR team, assessed the quality of work and provided technical guidance to ensure the project meets the required standards. Now 90% complete, the perimeter fence will enhance the security of the health facility, creating a safer environment for healthcare workers, patients, and the wider Yelewata community.
During the visit, the team also inspected the PHC's solar-powered system and carried out technical adjustments to improve its efficiency, ensuring a more reliable and sustainable power supply for healthcare services.
This intervention is implemented under UNHCR's Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria (SIDPIN) Project, which aims to strengthen protection and improve access to essential services for displaced persons and host communities.
Together with our partners, Caritas Nigeria remains committed to delivering sustainable protection interventions and improving access to quality services for vulnerable communities.
