@BigDuke___6@InPursuitUSA@BarackObama Conscription wasn't put in place name nationally in the North until 1863. Some 30% of draftees were rejected for medical reasons off the bat. Another 20% of those drafted simply fled to the woods and never showed up. Of 776,000 men drafted, only 46,000 ever saw combat.
@SenseNotNoise@urie_ryan@JoJoFromJerz $48 million per year. Meanwhile, the Pentagon will spend $2.5 billion today alone! And we already know DoD has no clue where that money is going. We keep talking about government waste, but we refuse to look at the real source.
@em_Lazzy The Christian fascists have existed outside of our reality for decades. They live in a totally different existence. Because of that, it was only a matter of time before somebody came along with the ability to attract them to a higher political plane.
@justacrip1@InPursuitUSA@BarackObama Absolutely not. He was supporting colonization well into 1862. Politicians admitted there was no practical possibilities with it, but it was very palatable to the Northern public.
@history_dame New York is one of the prettiest states, but no amount of natural beauty can replace the loss of a friend or a loved one. I'm sorry, Larisa. Hope you're OK. βΉοΈ
@justacrip1@InPursuitUSA@BarackObama Lincoln kept the Union together in 1861 because he knew just how touchy the border states and even the lower Midwest were. Remember, Lincoln was elected as a moderate in 1860.
Lincoln was always pressured to shift to the left on slavery. Lincoln changed as the situation changed.
@GosPaly62410@InPursuitUSA@BarackObama The problem is, we live in a situation completely without parallel in Western civilization. Barack Obama caused division just by virtue of his being Black. Which wasn't his fauly. Republicans were and still are far more racist than most people know. Everything flows from that.
@io89q@BigDuke___6@InPursuitUSA@BarackObama I'm not a believer in this massive blue tidal wave. None of the Democratic apparatchiks understand that the Democrats are still polling at their worst numbers of all time. The Dems will make substantial gains, but I think those gains will be more modest than most people expect.
@InPursuitUSA@BarackObama These are facts. Which means they are absolutely useless in the political discourse of 2026. Barack Obama continues to prove that, after 20 years of being a national political figure, he hasn't learned a damn thing about how Americans operate.
@BigDuke___6@InPursuitUSA@BarackObama Also an interesting argument because that nearly all of the Army of the Potomac voted for Lincoln in 1864 over their former commander, George McClellan.
