@BraviaGames I'm curious, what makes his "Sonic Cycle" false? On a textual, narrative framework level it feels accurate. I would love for it to be wrong though, as it harms Sonic's character a lot for me.
@ChaddyFantome I would like that, but the way they did it made it feel like they wanted to avoid the dilemma entirely. If they did address it, they'd also have to address Silver since he was in on the assasination plan, and why Silver thought it was ok to trick someone like Tangle into it
If the narrative frames Whisper as right for tricking Tangle into assisting with an assasination, and frames it as healing when Mimic dies, then the narrative is taking a side and saying sparing Villains is naive, and ending them is what's truly healing. This is bad for Sonic
@BraviaGames I really liked her character by the end of the Tangle & Whisper mini-series, but Mimic escaping and the way they addressed that completely undid the theme of the original story. Whisper gets her healing by lying to Tangle and ending Mimic, it feels oddly cynical and upsetting.
@_CallMeDante OH THIS IS JUST INCREDIBLE!!! If you do want to keep it private that's completely ok, but I would LOVE to play as your Sonic model in game!
@Zhane_Star I'd say the audience usually knowing it's Mimic leans more into dramatic irony than mystery. Instead of thinking "Who is this new suspicious character?", we're supposed to think "Oh no, Mimic has infiltrated the restoration! Will the others find out it's him?". It makes suspense.
@BraviaGames I feel like people don't really acknowledge enough that Sonic's narrative purpose is to be the positive flat arc inspiration. Treating his character like a real person and trying to make him morally grey completely changes his symbolical and narrative meaning.
@FrogFroggs For me, IDW has a lot of cool stuff I like to think happened, but it's largest theme, being Starline's/Surges Sonic Cycle, is one that I don't think fits the Game Sonic canon thematically. So I like to just focus on the parts I like!
@FrogFroggs I think a lot of people see "not canon" as meaning "being worthless", so when someone disagrees about it being canon, fans see it as a direct insult. It could also be due to official channels stating it as canon, but fans don't consider Prime canon anyway. Headcanons are cool!
