If family doctors in NL were paid $578 per visit, I doubt there would be a shortage. MCP pays your family docs on average $40 per visit (before overhead). Our gov't continues to spend millions on bandaid solutions while FPs close their doors across the province #nlpoli#nlhealth
@JDwoodfine@DrEvdLinde@NL_HealthServ Burin has been on internal medicine diversion about 50% of the time for many months. No one has helped. We have been forced to keep critically ill patients in ER > 24 hours due to lack of beds in St. Johns and medflight rarely actually showing up in Burin. It's exhausting.
While other provinces make moves to stabilize FM, @GovNL is going to arbitration with its MD's. Has GovNL just decided that a phone call from a doctor anywhere but NL is the best we can do to provide primary care to our citizens? They have lost the plot.
This statement shows the Tories have no idea how the FFS model works. It's takes time to negotiate the MOA to bill MCP for services. Also, the model is awful and contributes to FPs leaving practice. NPs would quit quickly if they had to use that billing structure & pay overhead
@tlynettepowell@YouTube I had the same blissful optimism when I started training as well. The most positive aspect I think though is being taught by family doctors, this will hopefully avoid the hidden curriculum of "you're too smart to be just a GP".
@DrEvdLinde This is what happens when gov't do nothing to support doctors who are here. There is no retention strategy. The bonuses insult those of us who "don't work enough" yet ERs would struggle to stay open without our presence. Locums are being flown in, paid well, free car and housing.
Preventative care is one of my favorite aspects of medicine. Always enjoy these women's wellness clinics and having the opportunity to teach others about the health benefits of spending time in nature. Get outside 2 hours per week, everyone. #parksrx
Another fabulous evening with a full-house of local women prioritizing their health in Burin.👩⚕️🧘♀️❤️
Preventative screening, nature therapy, chair yoga, pap testing & mammogram referrals!
Thank you to @ShopprsDrugMart for funding this program in our #local communities. 👏👏
Breaking down the family medicine residency match for @MUNFamMed. 40% of MUN spots unmatched versus 15% across all schools. This is no coincidence given current state of FM in NL . @GovNL@TomOsborneMHA We have some work to do if we want to turn this around.
@DanielleRa60149@davidcarr333 Trying to make an ER doctor feel guilty isn't going to help. I doubt he had a single break last night. Don't make wait times worse by increasing doctors' moral injury with such comments. Complain to gov't, ER doctors are doing their absolute best in a broken system.
@tlynettepowell You also can have 1000 seats at the med school and it won't help the family med crisis. You can't force students into rural family med. 17 empty family med residency seats speaks volumes. Gov't has made family medicine completely unattractive to trainees in NL.
@govnl adding seats to the med school is nothing more than putting up draperies in a house that is falling apart. They are trying to look good for the next election. There were 17 empty family med residency seats meaning students are choosing not to train in family med in NL.
Just imagine everyone debating your right to bodily autonomy based on passages from ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.’ You’d feel pretty confused and angry, right? Well, that’s exactly how I feel when I listen to people discuss the Bible in relation to my rights.
@drlorileeoates @tlynettepowell @OgunyemiMD @GovNL They are closing practices because they aren't supported. I was solo practice which was impossible. If gov't paid appropriately with team based care then practice would be sustainable. Clinical training for FP is not comparable to NP despite what gov't portrays.
NL MOH saying that FPs need to provide less virtual care and more in-person care is really rich considering our gov't just threw 22 million dollars at an out-of-province virtual care service instead of actually supporting FPs working in NL. #ostrichgovt

@DrEvdLinde Patients and families do complain just to the ER staff. Verbal abuse toward ER staff has increased leading to more staff leaving and even longer wait times. People need to complain to gov't not to those of us foolish enough to keep trying. The canary has been singing for years.
@drlorileeoates A. My point is he deserves a sentence longer than 2 years less a day which is the limit for HMP. B. Look at the DUI rates in NL it is socially acceptable when it should be treated as attempted murder. C. What scenario is worse than taking the life of an innocent young man?
