After meeting Boris Johnson in Edinburgh, First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, says that "behind all the bluff and bluster", he has "set the UK on an almost inevitable path to a no-deal Brexit".
@NeillOldham Some claimed ‘better relationship’ with first names. I never had any problem building strong, safe, healthy relationship with any kids across my career, in any setting, so this claim didn’t stand with me.
@NeillOldham I was always Miss Lawson in spec needs setting, some able to say, some had variations, some signed L. I believe it would have been just the same with my first name. For kids on shared placements it showed that the ‘normal’ was Miss/Mrs/Mr in school, sense of normal same as peers
Kids are often praised for suppressing their emotions. Emotions are neither good or bad, they're internal signals to direct our attention. Using timeout or punishment in response to feelings sends the message that those big feelings aren't welcome & you aren't lovable right now🌱
"The problem is that we still celebrate martyr teachers; it’s the most damaging narrative in our profession." I think this is really good. @ZoeParamour: https://t.co/Gny2SwhB4M
'We must stay away from pathology and separate mental Health & wellbeing from acute needs in the narrative we push in our educational provisions.'

A teacher said to me the other day - how do we build positive relationships with students? The answer is simple - be genuine, and remember why you became a teacher! Positivity, honesty and courage are what counts. #whyiteach#trueteaching#empathy#teacherlife
1 - There are plenty of good pru places, but we are massively under resourced.
2 - PRUs are not 'gang grooming units.'
3 - Not a fan of calling kids or anyone damaged. That's just my personal preference.
School can heal children, harm them & everything between. School can be a life-changing protective factor or a risk. We’re not therapists, as educators, but our power to do good or ill is greater than that of any therapist. Mental health is therefore inescapably our business.
