I am just lucky in marriage, not that I’m the richest woman, the most virtuous, the prettiest, the most educated, or the most prayerful. Not even close.
I don’t pray.
I don’t go to church.
I married a very good man that I’d marry in a thousand generations if I had to. I could have also ended up with an arsehole without knowing, and nothing about me would have changed that, that’s why I call it luck.
There’s no perfect template for marriage because you are not dealing with a child, you are dealing with an adult with a unique past and family orientation. Your upbringing differs from theirs so you both have to make adjustments to fit in each other’s life.
No one is more lucky to have the other. Marriage should not be a pity party or a compensation. It is not a reward for good behavior. It is simply a union of two adults who want to be with one another.
Love is not enough to stay married. You have to respect each other and make sacrifices. You have to be with someone you can share their greatest moments or darkest fears. Your relationship with your partner will shape how your children see others.
That’s all I have to say about marriage.
