The Head of the RDC Secretariat and Anti-Corruption Unit in the Office of the President, Maj. Martha Asiimwe, has called upon leaders in Nabilatuk District to strengthen the fight against poverty and corruption in order to accelerate socio-economic transformation and improve household incomes.
Speaking during a mobilisation and monitoring engagement in Nabilatuk District, Maj. Asiimwe emphasized that government programmes must directly benefit ordinary citizens and help communities transition from subsistence living to the money economy.
She noted that the RDC Secretariat and Anti-Corruption Unit was established by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2018 to monitor service delivery, ensure accountability and guarantee that government programmes reach the last person at the grassroots.
โWe are not here to decorate offices. We are here to ensure services reach the last person in the last village,โ she said.
Maj. Asiimwe urged district leaders, technical officers and security structures to work together in mobilising communities to embrace government wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, UWEP and SAGE.
She revealed that Nabilatuk District has continued to benefit from various government interventions aimed at poverty alleviation, including UGX 4.9 billion disbursed under the Parish Development Model to support SACCOs and thousands of beneficiaries across the district.
She added that Emyooga SACCOs in the district have also received funding to support enterprise development, financial inclusion and income generation among households.
โThe Presidentโs vision is to ensure that every household joins the money economy through commercial agriculture, enterprise development, value addition and job creation,โ she said.
Maj. Asiimwe emphasized that leaders have a responsibility to ensure that government funds are properly utilised and that citizens fully benefit from national development programmes.
She warned that corruption, misuse of public funds and poor supervision of projects continue to undermine service delivery and delay transformation in communities.
โThe Office of the RDC, together with anti-corruption agencies, remains committed to fighting corruption and ensuring accountability. District leaders are the first line of defence against corruption,โ she stressed.
Maj. Asiimwe identified theft of medicines, absenteeism by public officers, misuse of PDM and Emyooga funds, illegal land evictions and shoddy government projects among the key challenges that must be addressed urgently.
โOur goal is to ensure that a growing money economy is also a corruption-free economy,โ she added.
She further called upon leaders to intensify monitoring of government programmes and ensure that public resources are used transparently and effectively to improve the welfare of citizens.
On unity and reconciliation, Maj. Asiimwe urged leaders to put aside political differences following the elections and focus on service delivery and development.
โElections come and go, but service to the people must continue without division. Leaders must work together to deliver better services, improve livelihoods and create opportunities for our people,โ she said.
She called upon all leaders and citizens to remain patriotic, accountable and committed to supporting government programmes aimed at eradicating poverty and transforming Uganda socially and economically. #OpenGovUg

The Ministry of Health has commended ten newly trained sonographers for strengthening maternal and newborn healthcare services in Busoga and Rwenzori sub-regions.
The health workers, mainly midwives and nurses from Health Centre IVs and General Hospitals, graduated with a Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound (Sonography) from the Ernest Cook Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (ECUREI) under the WeCare Project implemented by Enabel in partnership with the Ministry of Health.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Director General of Health Services, Dr Charles Olaro, commended the training programme for directly responding to Ugandaโs maternal health needs. He emphasised the importance of expanding access to quality ultrasound services and strengthening both equipment and human resource capacity within the health system.
Dr Olaro also highlighted the need for clear career progression for specialised health workers, continuous professional development, and adherence to professionalism, ethics, infection prevention and accurate clinical documentation.
He further urged graduates to remain committed to lifelong learning and uphold patient-centred care in service delivery.
The @EnabelinUganda Country Director described the training as part of the broader WeCare Project, a partnership between Uganda and Belgium aimed at improving maternal and newborn health through strengthened service delivery systems, emergency referrals, district leadership and community engagement.
The Country Director noted that the graduates had already conducted over 10,323 ultrasound scans within five months of deployment, significantly improving access to free services for mothers in public health facilities.
The studentsโ representative, Ms Marion Kainza, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health, Enabel, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium, ECUREI, and lecturers for supporting the training. She noted that the programme had transformed service delivery but also called for improved staffing, equipment supply, welfare and career advancement opportunities for health workers.
She also highlighted that Health Centre IVs in the two sub-regions previously lacked the full combination of equipment, trained personnel and supplies needed to independently offer ultrasound services, forcing many mothers to seek costly private care.
The Ministry of Health reiterated that the training model of upskilling health workers already in service is key to strengthening Ugandaโs healthcare system and improving maternal and newborn health outcomes.
The Ministry further reaffirmed its commitment to working with development partners and local governments to expand access to quality diagnostic services across the country. @MinofHealthUG@DianaAtwine@CHRISBARYOMUNS1
