NOW IN THEATERS: Cast Aside the Clouds, from director Mary Darling and co-directors Bre Vader and Felicia Sobhani, is the first feature film to bring the story of the Bahá'ís in Iran to the big screen. But it's no tragedy and it isn't a victims' narrative. Cast Aside the Clouds is a love story, between Leyla, a young Bahá'í woman, and Sassan, a Muslim man navigating Iran's tension between prejudice and progress. And it evokes the love Bahá'ís have for Iran irrespective of 47 years of persecution under the Islamic Republic. The film is at New York's Village Cinema until 4 June, the Lumiere Cinema in Los Angeles from 4-11 June, the Wayfarer Cinema in Chicago from 18-25 June, and in Washington DC at the Angelika from 25 June to 1 July.

Rojin Hoseininejad Granted Medical Leave from Kerman Prison Amid Severe Health Concerns

It was learned on 10 February 2026 that Ms. Rojin Hoseininejad, a 20-year-old Bahá’í who underwent surgery at age two months and currently suffers from cirrhosis of the liver, was arrested at her home on 24 January 2026 and subsequently transferred to Kerman Prison on 28 January 2026.

Despite the submission of comprehensive medical documentation spanning from childhood to the present, certificates from several specialists, her attending physician, and the prison doctor confirming her urgent need for special care—and warning of serious risks to her health if she remains in detention—Ms. Hoseininejad has remained imprisoned until now.

Continued Uncertainty Surrounding the Detention of Bahá’í Artist Payam Faridian in Mashhad

Payam Faridian, a Bahá’í and artist specializing in pottery and photography, remains in a state of uncertainty at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, twenty days after his arrest.

Despite repeated visits by his family to the Mashhad Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office, no clear information has been provided regarding the charges brought against him. Mr. Faridian was detained by security forces on 22 January 2026 and has been denied access to legal counsel.

Payam Faridian has been arrested solely because of his Bahá’í faith. His family remains deeply concerned about his case and the conditions of his detention.

Mr. Faridian spends most of his time at his pottery workshop. However, at the time of his arrest, security forces searched his workplace and confiscated all camera memory cards and electronic devices.

Trial of Three Bahá’í Women Scheduled for Saturday, 7 February 2026

The trial of three Bahá’í women, Ms. Shideh Tavakkoli, Ms. Shila Tavakkoli, and Ms. Sheida Rowhani, was scheduled to be held on Saturday, 7 February 2026. The baseless charges against them include “membership in groups acting against national security” (Article 499 of the Islamic Penal Code), “propaganda activities related to the Bahá’í Faith” (Article 500 bis), and “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran” (Article 500).

These women were arrested on 27 May 2025, following a violent raid by security forces on their homes, without presenting any judicial warrant. During the operation, the officers conducted thorough searches and confiscated a number of personal items, including Bahá’í books, mobile phones, computers, tablets, gold and currency. In one of the homes, property deeds for house and car were also seized.
