It is a political faction of the ‘Take It Back Movement’, and that is their way of operating. Since their leader, Sowore, løst the NANS election, they have always been against us.”

PRESS RELEASE
NANS ENGAGES HIGH CHIEF (ENGR.) KESTIN EBIMORBOWIE PONDI, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF TANTITA SECURITY SERVICES NIGERIA LIMITED, SECURES LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS, JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR STAKEHOLDERS, MOBILITY SUPPORT .
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by its President, Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS, engaged High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Ebimorbowei Pondi , Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), in a high-level strategic meeting to explore areas of partnership aimed at strengthening collaboration in national development and advancing student welfare.
The President, in his address, noted that students remain critical stakeholders in nation-building, emphasizing that beyond constituting a significant proportion of the population, they bear the enormous responsibility of shaping the future of the country. He further stated that Nigeria’s oil and gas sector has, for decades, remained the backbone of the national economy, contributing substantially to government revenue, foreign exchange earnings, infrastructure development, and overall national growth.
The President stated that, in this regard, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) acknowledges and commends the services of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, one of the leading private security firms in Africa. He stated that, “Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has played a significant role in safeguarding Nigeria’s economic mainstay through its advanced, technology-driven oil and gas pipeline surveillance system, asset protection initiatives, intelligence support services, and comprehensive security operations across the Niger Delta region.”
Going forward, the President stated:
“As a conscious, objective, and meticulous student leader, I wish to unequivocally state that, contrary to the calls by certain detractors urging the Federal Government of Nigeria to discontinue the services of and terminate its contract with Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) holds a contrary position and gives full credence to the Company and its contributions to national development.
This position is influenced by the remarkable track record of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, which has distinguished itself through outstanding contributions to national security, particularly in the protection of critical oil and gas infrastructure. The Company has also demonstrated exceptional dedication to safeguarding the economic stability of the nation through its effective surveillance operations, intelligence support services, job creation initiatives, youth empowerment programmes, and community development efforts across the Niger Delta region and beyond.
The President subsequently engaged the MD of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited on potential areas of partnership and strategic collaboration. He stated:
“As the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the apex and umbrella body representing Nigerian students and student structures across the country, I make bold to affirm that students are critical stakeholders in national development. Consequently, promoting their welfare, advancement, and overall development remains a foremost priority of our administration.”
The President appealed to the MD of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited to consider expanding the Company's scholarship initiative to accommodate a greater number of Nigerian students through both local and international scholarship opportunities. He noted that access to quality education and global exposure would not only enhance the academic and professional capacities of students but also equip them with the requisite knowledge, skills, and competencies to compete on the global stage.
@yeankhar And besides, you need to also know that your muscles would naturally not bring blood, it is only the vein that was punctured before reaching your muscles that would bleed out and once it's exposed, it can't be used anymore.
@yeankhar My best explanation for this, would be that we actually need the blood in a controlled environment free from contamination (Syringe or what you're withdrawing into). If you just puncture and let the person bleed before taking your sample, contamination comes.
Sequel to my earlier statement calling out the management of Osun State University over the alleged failure to refund students who had paid their tuition fees prior to the disbursement of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the management of the university has reached out to me with clarifications regarding the matter.
The university management stated that the refund process was initiated through Sterling Bank and had commenced approximately three weeks ago. Following this clarification, I immediately engaged with representatives of Sterling Bank, who confirmed that the university had indeed remitted the funds for the refund of affected students.
The bank further informed me that over 3,000 students have already been successfully refunded, while approximately 100 students are yet to receive their refunds due to discrepancies in the account details provided during the refund process.
In view of this development, I hereby urge all affected students who are yet to receive their refunds to promptly liaise with the university management and provide accurate account information. Students are also advised to ensure that the accounts submitted are valid commercial bank accounts recognized by the Nigerian banking system.
I appreciate the management of Osun State University and Sterling Bank for providing the necessary clarification on this matter. I also thank the affected students for their patience and cooperation as efforts continue to ensure that every eligible beneficiary receives their refund.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

NANS APPOINTS INDEPENDENT TETFund INTERVENTION PROJECT ASSESSMENT,VERIFICATION AND MONITORING COMMITTEE
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has observed with keen interest the consistent commitment of the Federal Government towards the revitalization and development of the education sector through the sustained intervention funding of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Over the years, billions of naira have been injected into tertiary institutions across the country for the provision of infrastructure, academic facilities, research support, capacity building, and other developmental projects aimed at improving the quality of education for Nigerian students. However, concerns have continued to emanate from various quarters regarding the level of utilization and impact of these interventions.
Of particular concern are persistent allegations of project abandonment, poor execution, substandard delivery, delayed completion, and other fraudulent practices reportedly perpetrated by some contractors entrusted with the implementation of TETFund projects across beneficiary institutions. These concerns have generated widespread public outcry and raised critical questions about the actual impact of TETFund interventions on students and the educational system.
Consequently, in line with our responsibility as the foremost representative body of Nigerian students and in furtherance of efforts to complement the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda for the education sector, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) hereby announces the constitution of an Independent TETFund Intervention Project Assessment, Verification and Monitoring Committee.
The committee is mandated to undertake a comprehensive nationwide tour of tertiary institutions across Nigeria to assess, verify and monitor the status of TETFund intervention projects. The committee shall evaluate the level of implementation, utilization, quality of delivery, and overall impact of these projects on students and host institutions.
The committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations within ninety (90) days. The report shall guide the leadership of NANS on the next line of action towards establishing the true state of TETFund intervention impacts on Nigeria's tertiary education sector. Furthermore, the recommendations arising from the committee's report shall be transmitted to the Presidency, the Federal Ministry of Education, and other relevant stakeholders for necessary action.

PRESS RELEASE
NANS CONDEMNS UNJUST SUSPENSION OF LAUTECH STUDENTS AND DEMANDS IMMEDIATE REVERSAL IN DEFENCE OF FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS
"An injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
My attention has been drawn to the unjust suspension of students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology following a peaceful protest. Without much ado, one can easily understand why the protest occurred in the first place. Any management that chooses this path, denying students their fundamental rights and subsequently punishing them for exercising those rights, has only demonstrated oppressive and authoritarian tendencies.
It must be duly noted that The right to peaceful protest is a constitutionally guaranteed right under Sections 39 and 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), which protect freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association. Any attempt to suppress or punish citizens or students for engaging in a peaceful and lawful protest raises serious concerns about the violation of these fundamental rights.
As the President of NANS, saddled with the responsibility of representing the collective interests of Nigerian students, I condemn in the strongest possible terms this unjust suspension. No student should be suspended or expelled for exercising their fundamental rights. Members of ASUU are not sacked for going on strike; why then should any student be suspended or expelled for expressing their grievances?
Moving forward, at my directive as the Grand Commander of Nigerian Students, I enjoin the Zonal Coordinator of NANS Zone D and the Joint Campus Council Chairman of Oyo State to immediately wade into this matter. As an organization, we cannot stand idly by while this injustice, victimization, and oppression persist.
Accordingly, in my capacity as the President of NANS, I call on the management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) to immediately reverse the suspension of our students, who only aired their grievances in a lawful and acceptable manner. Let it be noted that the continued insistence on this unlawful suspension would compel the leadership of NANS to relocate its Secretariat to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH).
As the President of NANS, I remain committed to upholding the mandate of Nigerian students entrusted to me, without compromise.
Thank you.
Yours in solidarity,
Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS

PRESS RELEASE
OUTCRY OVER THE PROLONGED STAY OF WASSCE CANDIDATES AT EXAMINATION CENTRES IN THE SOUTHWEST AMID SECURITY CONCERNS
I write as the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), vested with the mandate to represent and protect the collective interests, welfare, and aspirations of Nigerian students across the country and in the diaspora. It is in furtherance of this responsibility that I address the recent disturbing developments surrounding the treatment of candidates sitting for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in parts of the Southwest region of Nigeria.
The reports that candidates were compelled to remain at their examination centres until late into the night on Thursday, June 4, 2026, devoid of sufficient consideration for their welfare, safety, and psychological well-being, are deeply troubling and unacceptable. Such an occurrence represents an affront to the dignity of students and raises serious concerns about the planning, coordination, and execution of a national examination of such significance.
It is both appalling and condemnable that young Nigerians, who had already endured months of preparation and the mental rigours associated with external examinations, were subjected to unnecessary hardship by being kept at examination centres far beyond reasonable hours. No examination procedure, administrative challenge, or operational deficiency should come at the expense of the safety and fundamental rights of students.
The right to personal liberty, security, and human dignity is guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Examination regulations and protocols must operate within the bounds of these constitutional protections. Under no circumstance should students be placed in situations that expose them to avoidable risks or deny them the opportunity to return to their homes and families at a reasonable and safe hour.
What makes this development even more alarming is the fact that it occurred within the Southwest region, a zone that has, in recent times, witnessed incidents of kidnapping, crimes, and other security challenges. Against this backdrop, it was grossly irresponsible for examination authorities to permit circumstances that left students stranded or lingering at examination centres late into the night, thereby exposing them to potential danger.
Consequently, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) demands that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), alongside the government act decisively, take responsibility and forestall future occurrences.
Furthermore, we call for a thorough review of examination logistics and contingency measures to guarantee that the welfare, security, and rights of students remain paramount in all future examinations. Students must never become victims of administrative failures, poor planning, or institutional negligence.
NANS remains committed to defending the rights, dignity, and safety of every Nigerian student and will continue to monitor developments closely while engaging relevant authorities to ensure accountability and lasting corrective measures.
Thank you.
Yours in service,
