Kangpokpi, Manipur - 24th August, 2026

The Taphou Kuki Village Authority, Sadar Hills West, Kangpokpi Sub-Division (Village No. 268619), has issued a press release condemning the recent burning and destruction of a residential house belonging to the village.

In the release, the Authority stated that such an act is "highly deplorable, inhuman, and unacceptable under any circumstances."

The Authority stated that burning of houses causes immense loss of property and livelihood and creates fear, insecurity and emotional suffering among affected families.

The press release made three appeals:

1. Appeal for peace: The Authority appealed to all concerned individuals and groups to refrain from violence, arson, and destruction of property, stating that differences and grievances must be addressed through peaceful dialogue and lawful means.

2. Appeal to administration: It urged the District Administration, Police and other competent authorities to take immediate and appropriate action to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and ensure justice as per law.

3. 24-hour deadline: The Village Authority gave a 24-hour deadline for the culprits involved in the burning of the house to claim responsibility and resolve the issue as per Kuki customary law, "failing which the Village Authority shall not be held responsible for any untoward incident."

The statement concluded with an appeal to all communities to maintain peace, exercise restraint and work together towards restoring trust, security and peaceful coexistence.

🟢 Day 23/30 — Resuming bus services may create headlines of normalcy, but it cannot erase the unresolved questions surrounding the Biren Singh audio. True peace requires truth, accountability and justice not an illusion of normalcy.

A bus route can reopen, but that alone cannot prove that peace has returned. Until the serious questions surrounding the audio are addressed through a fair and impartial process, calling the situation normal risks ignoring the deeper issues that still demand answers.

Amit Shah ji, Manipur needs accountability—not a presentation.

You told Parliament—16 video conferences were held, 36,000 security personnel were deployed, the Chief Secretary was changed, the DGP was changed, and a Security Adviser was sent.

Fine.

But the people of Manipur are not asking about the number of steps taken. They are asking about the outcome.

You say—the violence happened on May 3 and everything had ended by the evening of May 4.

Then the question is simple:

If the violence had ended on May 4, why did Manipur continue to burn for months afterwards?

Why did people continue to be killed?
Why did thousands of homes continue to be burned?
Why were people displaced in their own state?
And despite such a massive security deployment, why did the violence flare up again and again?

And the most serious question—

You say that the government used Face Identification from the video to identify and arrest the accused.

Then why did it take a viral video for action to be taken over the incidents of May 4?

The Supreme Court later described the investigation into 6,523 FIRs as prima facie “tardy” and raised questions over the considerable delay between the incidents and the registration of FIRs.

So don't tell us the number of video conferences.

Tell us—when did the people of Manipur get justice?

Don't tell us the number of 36,000 personnel deployed.

Tell us—why did the violence continue for months despite their deployment?

Don't read out the list of Chief Secretaries and DGPs who were changed.

Tell us—who was held accountable?

And before getting into the legal debate over Article 356, answer one basic question—

If everything was under control as you claim, why did Manipur continue to burn for so long?

Manipur is not a PowerPoint slide.

People live there.
They had homes.
They had lives.
They had families.

Don't reduce the pain of Manipur to “We held 16 meetings.”

The country is asking for accountability—

Not what you did,
but why, despite doing all of that, Manipur was still not saved.

Yesterday, the Home Minister, @HMOIndia, gave a long speech in Parliament. Here are some of the relevant points for Kuki-Zo people to note:

1. The Home Minister acknowledged the separation. He explicitly stated that Kuki drivers could no longer go to Meitei areas, and Meitei drivers could no longer go to Kuki areas.

2. He acknowledged “Kuki Areas.”

3. He acknowledged that Manipur is fragmented when he referred to Manipur as divided into “Kuki Areas” and “Meitei Areas.”

4. He acknowledged that there is a “Buffer Zone” dividing the “Kuki Areas” and “Meitei Areas.”

All of these statements have been entered into the official records.

These may sound like nothing, but for our movement, these are the little things that will help us argue our case in our long fight for freedom from Meitei rule.
