💡I’m glad to share that my new paper, “From Costs to Contraction: The Impact of Supply-Side Inflation on Firms,” is now available on SSRN.

These findings underscore the profound and lasting effects of supply-side inflation on innovation-driven economic growth.
Would love to hear your thoughts, questions, or related work!
🧪 The decline in R&D investment is especially pronounced, driven by falling cash reserves
💸 The impact is more severe for financially constrained firms, which rely heavily on internal cash to invest
Here’s what I find:
📈 Higher supply-side inflationary pressure leads to increased cost ratios and lower profit margins
🏗️ Firms respond by cutting investment in both tangible and intangible capital — with long-lasting effects
💡 Using Natural Language Processing on earnings call transcripts, I construct a forward-looking, firm-level measure of supply-side inflationary pressure.
