people think I'm joking when I tell them that to develop taste for software they need to have brunch with their friends, watch old movies and find old records, walk around metropolitan cities and observe how the building styles lend to the personality of the people around them, but I'm so fkin dead serious. where else is this mythical "taste" going to come from? what are you doing to parse the human condition? mf you can barely decide what discomfort you're subjecting yourself to in finding out what you like/dislike, and I'm supposed to trust you to make decisions for millions of people? go do some pottery and come back to me and describe the joy you felt without faffing about curves or whatever, I need you to feel the clay under your fingernails and fall in love with mud. even steve had the decency to drop acid on a sweaty beach in goa to find himself, the least you can do is listen to your friends talk about their lives over a meal without getting distracted by your phone.

a internet ter virado o espaço primário de socialização acabou colocando no mesmo espaço gente de lugares, classes e criações radicalmente diferentes. isso interage com o nosso sistema de classe-castas de jeitos incríveis.

The degree to which people believe this can’t possibly result from coherent statistical prediction, absent the arising of some magical machine consciousness that contradicts the nature of the machine itself, provides a good proxy for how deeply they’d considered the structure and size of possibility space prior to engaging with these tools.
Also, these computational processes are definitionally and transparently understood as stochastic token predictors, so it’s more than a bit odd when people forget that fact because an output overwhelms their own intuition with respect to the nature of such a process’s capabilities.
The capacity to coherently traverse high dimensional spaces makes a model sentient no more than the capacity of a submarine to transit an ocean makes it a whale. We collapse such differences at the cost of deeper comprehension.
Ultimately, we have not adapted to meaningfully interact with holographic compressions over all of humanity’s creative artifacts, and it shows.
No, "anthropomorphizing" is a technical problem, about how AI works, not something like woke language policing. We say it's wrong because it's "technically" wrong not "morally" wrong.
If you fail to set the brakes when parking on a hill, and your car then rolls down the hill, you don't claim that the car "decided to drive away on its own". Such anthropomorphizing distorts what really happened -- that you failed to set the brakes.
The same applies to AI. When you "anthropomorphize" the AI you fail at understanding what actually happened.
