You neglect to mention under North Carolina's normal process, sales tax revenue is shared with LOCAL governments to help pay for essential services.

But the new budget has a provision that keeps the tax proceeds from electricity used by qualifying data centers at the 'STATE LEVEL instead of allowing those dollars to be be distributed through the normal formula'.

Counties and municipalities are expected to support these facilities by providing emergency services, fire protection, planning, inspections, and other infrastructure.

Yet, the additional tax revenue generated from electricity used by qualifying data centers will remain with THE STATE rather than flowing back through the normal distribution process to help offset LOCAL costs.

Read that again.....

Instead of flowing back through the normal distribution process to help offset those LOCAL/ COUNTY costs.

According to the North Carolina General Assembly's Fiscal Research Division, this change is expected to generate:

$21.4 million in FY 2026-27
$23.1 million in FY 2027-28
$24.8 million in FY 2028-29
$26.6 million in FY 2029-30
$28.6 million in FY 2030-31
