UPDATE: Winifred Nakandi has declared her intention to contest for the Nakawa East MP seat as an independent. She had earlier shown interest in running for the Kampala Woman MP position under the National Unity Platform (NUP) but later withdrew, citing irregularities in the party’s card allocation process. She now says her campaign will focus on being “a voice for the common person,” and promises to promote unity and inclusive socio-economic transformation. Nakandi joins a growing list of contenders for the Nakawa East seat, including NUP’s Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro and NRM’s Fredrick Ruhindi, among other aspirants. MP candidates will be nominated later this month by the Electoral Commission. #MonitorUpdates
