@ZyifaRen@nothatsnotme185 The new republic also was staunchly anti-military (at least the populists were), which is why they had to secretly make the Resistance. It wasn't exactly sanctioned by the New Republic, Leia had to practically beg them to let her tackle this growing threat.
@ls4290@ZyifaRen Even within the new republic, which reformed itself democratically, there were imperial sympathizers who were funding and hiding imperial bases, funds, fleets, etc, and directing it to hidden locations to amass what would become the first order.
@eclipsereturn@unveiledspace@SZapper85 I quite literally said that his character was the most interesting at the point he didn't have a lightsaber (first 20 mins).
@eclipsereturn@unveiledspace@SZapper85 I'm saying those are the times his character isn't written like a joke. He practically IS the comedic relief. Nothing wrong with some humor, but it's always AT THE EXPENSE of his character.
@reset_by_peer That's my problem with cultural critic types. The masses donβt watch/read the thing and just accept and spread their take. The YouTubers do get facts wrong or misrepresent events, and itβs hard to combat those narratives when audiences treat them as truth
@unveiledspace@SZapper85 Dude is portrayed so pathetically, kinda sad. He's very interesting in the first 20 mins and every time he picks up a saber. At every other point he's just the butt of a joke. "Sanitation" "the force will save us" "why you *nod*ing me I'm trying to make a plan" π
@NickMenakos People also don't know the logistics of how movies are made. TLJ was being written while TFA was being shot. Johnson never saw fan theories, posters, promotional materials, etc. he literally couldn't have predicted people would walk away thinking Finn would be some Jedi anyways.
@BeetleFan763@SocExpFC@thrawnadelrey Irrelevant to the point at hand. It's fine to think it's a bad plan, or a stupid plot point, or Holdo sucks as a character. But it's not true that "he just wanted to know she had a plan" as the person above said.
@SocExpFC@thrawnadelrey He doesn't start his mutiny UNTIL he finds out she has a plan. He just doesn't like it and takes over. All of this further shows that he doesn't have any reason to be involved in the ordeal, he's just going to cause problems until he fixes his way of thinking.
@robby_weidemann I find that most people argue from the meme-ified version the internet made up to win points online. "Luke went in there to kill his nephew" no he didn't. "Chasing the resistance instead of blowing them for no reason" no the movie explained it just fine. Etc.
