Grateful to once again have the opportunity to work for OHCHR to monitor and document human rights violations and abuses in Ethiopia, especially in the context of conflict.
#Ethiopia: We’re very concerned by the deteriorating #humanrights situation in several regions of the country. We call on authorities to stop mass arrests, ensure that any deprivation of liberty is judicially reviewed, & release those arbitrarily detained

Historic day indeed! Mogoqori town - recaptured from Al-Shabaab last September - elected its youth leader democratically. Democratisation starting from below - Somali youth showing the way. Incremental steps important on the way towards democratisation.
After more than 50 years, the people of Puntland are voting for the first time, with young people making up 60 % of registered voters. History in the making! Congratulations Puntland.
"An inspiring moment: a mother exercising her right to vote, carrying the hopes and dreams of the next generation. Today, we witness the power of democracy and the importance of active participation in elections."
